Networks Blocking Google TV, Ruining Our Good Time (Switched)

Oct 22nd 2010 12:01PM I thought I remember reading that Google TV had a setting to send "Generic" browser headers that the providers couldn't block (because it would mean blocking pretty much everybody).

How would you change Apple's HDMI-equipped Mac mini? (Engadget)

Everyone is entitled to their own views. Let that society maintain its values, no one is disputing that. Enforcing it at the national level is stupidity, though. Not just stupidity, but its wrong.

Did the Fifth Circuit just make breaking DRM legal? Not quite. (Engadget)

Jul 26th 2010 2:51PM What qualifies as a digital "copy"? You're always copying the data in a computer system. You copy it from HDD/DVD to RAM to CPU/GPU cache on a computer or its equivalent in a set-top box.

You copy it from cache to the output buffer, and its copied over the cable in your TV's memory.

If you stream a movie from your home computer to your laptop over the internet while you're out and about, you're copying it dozens of times on dozens of routers across the internet.

Whats the technical language that makes a copy from a DRM'd source to an output device and its associated memory "authorized?"

Whats the difference between short term memory in a TV and slightly longer term flash memory in a PMP?

AT&T readies new calling plans for July 25, nothing changing at the core (Engadget)

Doesn't work like that. More coverage = more subscribers = similar costs

Verizon posts $198m net loss, picks up healthy amount of new wireless subs (Engadget)

Jul 23rd 2010 2:00PM I looked into switching to Verizon. Its ridiculously expensive and not worth it.

AT&T is also stupidly expensive, but not as stupidly expensive as Verizon.

Since I'm tied to GSM, I switched to TMobile. The Even More Plus plans are about the best deal you'll find outside of Cricket Wireless.

What is this tiny Apple touchscreen that just leaked in Taiwan? (Engadget)

Jul 9th 2010 1:26PM Obviously its a new touchpad for Macbooks.

NTP awakes, sues Apple, Microsoft, Google, HTC, LG, and Motorola over wireless email patents (Engadget)

Jul 9th 2010 10:36AM So I know this story is everywhere and nobody else is offering any more information that this story here is, but I would really like to see some good journalism and list the patents that are being infringed upon here.

iPhone 4 launch day line watch (update: Woz in action) (Engadget)

Jun 24th 2010 3:41PM @MosesusedaniPad

Not a single thing you said is true.

"It took Microsoft one week to sell 500 Kins [...]"
Microsoft sold at least 7,000 kins in the first week. There are over 7,000 active monthly users of the kin studio which you have to have a kin to use.

"[...]and it took Apple one day to sell over a million iPhone 4s."
Apple only took in 600,000 presales which is less than a million if I recall. Also we don't have any sales figures for today but I guarantee its less than one million. Oh sure Apple may have sold over a million iphone 4s after today as a whole, but it will have taken it several days to do it. So your statement is incorrect.

"No wonder Apple is the richest tech company in the world."
Richest in what way?

Cash on hand?
NO
Revenues?
NO
Total Assets?
NO
How about Profit Margin?
NO.
The only possible ammunition you have left is Market Capitalization.
Indeed, Apple currently has a higher market capitalization than Microsoft. Does that mean anything for Apple? NO. It only means things for its shareholders. It in almost no way corresponds to Apple's "richness".

"Zune HD (Strike 1!)"
The Zune HD is a hell of a media player and, having used both iTunes and an iPhone, I can say that Zune is the better experience. Your comment is invalid.

"Windows 7 tablet (Strike 2!)"
There hasn't been one released yet so you're jumping the gun prematurely. This comment is invalid.

"and Kin (Strike 3! Yer OUT!)"
Already disproved this above.

"Game over."
For Apple, it soon will be. Or rather, it will be back to the 3-4% marketshare it used to struggle to hold on to. Microsoft has great things both on the market already and on the way. By next year they'll be tied together in the way that only Microsoft can.

"It's absolutely amazing. "
Yes, it is amazing... how absolutely stupid those people are. Judging by your complete lack of any sort of grasp on reality, I would say you fit in with those people quite well. Please stay there.
