'Jeopardy!' Has a New Genius: Grad Student Surpasses Ken Jennings' High One-Day Total (VIDEO) (AOL TV)

Sep 15th 2010 12:09PM I also was a Jeopardy contestant, both with Art Fleming in the early '70s & with Alex in '08. Contestants give Alex a choice of topics to discuss with them; the ones he picks are whatever resonates with him. We nerds have a lot in common so of course he'll have something personal to add. It isn't just a quiz show, you do need to read quickly & have fast reactions, and also bet strategically. My gutsy betting won me a nice piece of change but my 58-year-old reaction time did me in against a college phenom in the next game. So it goes.

The Great Typo Hunt -- Two Friends Correct Grammar Across the USA (Asylum)

Aug 19th 2010 3:15PM HAHA! Serves me right for my hubris...I misspelled "prix" as "prixe!" Oh, well, at least I can spell in English!

The Great Typo Hunt -- Two Friends Correct Grammar Across the USA (Asylum)

Aug 19th 2010 3:12PM Many otherwise decent restaurants will post signs advertising their "prefix" dinners (instead of "prixe fixe"). But my fave is the book at the front desk of my mother's assisted-living facility whose (not "who's") pages urge visitors to "sing in & out." And I always do (yes, I know that's a split infinitive), to the amusement of the desk clerk!

Aug 19th 2010 3:05PM I was about to correct your spelling ("unfortunetly" & "definetly") but stopped to wonder if these were new forms of familiar words adapted to cyberspace communication (hence the "net" part); but that passed. I hope you refudiate it!

PhotoSynthesis With Baron Wolman (Spinner)

Aug 7th 2010 10:17PM I met Duke Ellington right about that time; Wolman says "regal" but what impressed me was the fact that at long last, I'd just met what could be called a "gentleman." BTW, the symbol on Mick Jagger's shirt during that concert series wasn't astrological; it was an omega, symbol of electrical resistance or, politically, The Resistance.

Connor Doran Flies High in Surprising 'America's Got Talent' Audition' (VIDEO) (AOL TV)

Jun 23rd 2010 11:49AM Uh, I think the reason so many people don't "get" what the producers obviously saw in this act is the insane quick-cut video that doesn't let us watch two seconds in a row of any one view, and intercuts the act with pointless shots of the judges. Now we see it from above--now below--now Howie Mandel--now closeup of the kid (no kite)--now closeup of the kite (no kid)...how the hell are you supposed to enjoy a lyrical, flowing performance??

CariDee English Reveals Pictures of Her Painful Battle with Psoriasis: '70% of My Body was Covered' (Stylelist)

Jun 7th 2010 4:57PM Jen, don't give up on the methotrexate. Take 1 mg (1000 mcgs) folic acid every day & the meth won't bother you! It's done wonders for me; my hands were so bad I'd BLEED on any papers I was handling & I have a job where I deal with the public--very awkward. They're not perfect now but they don't attract unwanted attention any more. Hang in there!

Confessions of a Census Worker (AOL Jobs)

May 29th 2010 1:32PM "Joe" is a whiner & obviously was more interested in complaining than finding ways to do his job better & with less aggravation. Also, the article neglected to identify "Joe's" location; local offices vary widely in their competence--ALL of these guys/gals below the top offices are temp hires & not all are suited to the job. "Joe" could have insisted on set times his workers call HIM for updates. He could have gone over his supervisor's head (there are mechanisms for this). AND the Census has redundancies built in to check info which is why you may receive a visit even if you've sent in your form. There's a lot of hostility against the govt right now & the Census workers get the brunt of it so lighten up a little, guys! Oh, and the reason a lot of people are hired to work a short time rather than few to work a longer time is that a lot of people just attend the paid training & then quit!

Thelma and Louise Equal Mom and Me (Politics Daily)

May 9th 2010 1:57PM Ms. Parker, what have you got against the word "neither?"

Joe Niekro's Knuckler Lives Through Arm of 12-Year-Old Girl (Fanhouse Main)

May 4th 2010 8:28AM Hey, Slickamoe & qestwriter: You are different sides of the same Neanderthal coin. qestwriter, at first I was annoyed by your funny remark; and then I remembered that the only reason I'd liked to watch men's basketball was...hot guys running around in their underwear! Oops! :)
