No Soup for You: School Serves Up Cold Lunch As Punishment (ParentDish)

Apr 17th 2010 3:20AM This is exactly why the movie 'Freedom Writers' was made. Schools try to discipline problem students and parents rush to sue and cry big tears in court, "*MY* baby is a *GOOD* little baby a boo hoo hoo hoo!!" And if the court doesn't shackle the school's hands then the parents shuttle their kids from school to school and make protests and demonstrations and become the biggest pain in the ass the local governments have seen. Now the kids rule the schools and school administrators have to dance to their tune out of fear that they'll get sued. Even if the kids are gang members with criminal records, schools are afraid to discipline them because they'll get sued.

This country is not a democracy. It's an anarchy. All forms of so-called government are ruled by an iron fist by the threat on the lips of everyone and their grandma: "I will GET or I will SUE!"

I'd love to see the school sue all of the parents for the costs of getting the cafeteria cleaned up and the school's pantries restocked. Poetic Justice indeed.

Mother Sentenced for Attacking Sex Offender (ParentDish)

Mar 3rd 2009 2:59AM Should this guy have been placed anywhere near kids? NO
Did he have any business trying to give fireworks to a 10-year-old? NO

(Fireworks are illegal in their own right and cause severe injury)

Will this make him think twice before approaching another kid? Damn I hope so, but probably not, level 3's have it hardwired into their brains

Did she cross the line taking a bat to him? Just a little, vigilantism is always applauded by the public but frowned on by the law. Ask Jack Ruby -- the law don't care who you kill.

Will she serve the full sentence? HELL NO, watch how fast the judge overturns the sentence when a mob of angry parents threatens to vote out of office, every politician with the power to remove him from the bench, unless they remove him IMMEDIATELY.

MPAA Sets Up Fake Site to Lure Pirates (Switched)

Oct 10th 2007 7:00PM Yeah, this sounds like exactly what they would do. It's just like the Dateline feature that lures potential child-sex-seekers to a house where a TV camera and cops are lying in wait. The old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Why catch people in the act when you can catch them BEFORE the act? There's even been a movie about that: Minority Report. Lesson to be learned: get your movies from a legitimate source, and check out their credentials thoroughly. The MPAA regularly downloads its own movies off the bit-torrent network to log and track the IP addresses of seeders, and report them to their ISP's. If the source of your movies doesn't check out, you could find a multi-million dollar lawsuit or a jail cell waiting for you faster than you can say ENTRAPMENT. Speaking of which--- innocent until proven guilty works both ways. You think you've been entrapped? The burden is on you to prove it. And all the people who were on Dateline and are now in jail are a testimony that the law won't be on your side.

Chinese Gaming Company Bans Men Playing as Women in RPGs (Switched)

Oct 1st 2007 10:45AM Many players are equally at fault for this; any role-playing game which includes the possibility of in-game relationships between players leads to a lot of teenage boys vehemently demanding to know the RL gender of every female character in whatever game they're playing. Create a female toon in World of Warcraft, whether you are a man or a woman behind the keyboard, and within two minutes of emerging in the game world you are getting bombarded with private whispers all saying the exact same thing: "r u m/f?" I know a lot of women in the game, and even quite a few men, who have taken to blocking or ignoring all private tells and whispers from anyone in the game they don't know. It's intrusive, it's offensive, it's ONLY A GAME.
