Getting sick in the recession: Celebs pitch in to help woman with Lou Gehrig's disease (WalletPop)

Oct 14th 2010 5:46AM I too became ill, although 5 years ago, with a horrible disease, just as bad as ALS. My insurance company DROPPED me (United) because I had GERD 23 years earlier for a couple of months. I lost my home, my career, every single monetary asset I had, dropped from 5'11 180 pounds to 107 pounds now, wife left me and I am dying. I don't have the good fortune to live in Malubu but I was earning 6 figures before it hit. The point is NO ONE knows when they will become ill and while Obama isn't all that popular right now, at least insurance companies can't drop you. I went from a 5 bedroom home to a one bedroom apartment and one of my sons stays here to ensure I wake up in the morning. I have 5 kids total. Since I actually PAID into the system, I don't qualify fir any programs, whereas if I never worked (or Lori), all our bills would be taken care of (thanks for nothing Pelosi). I have less than a year left and guess what, YOU could be ME in a day, week, month or year. Our country's health care is FUBAR Mr. Obama. Good luck Lori and hang in there.

It Wasn't a Mortgage Recession After All: So Why Don't We Feel Better? (Housingwatch)

Mar 2nd 2010 9:44AM The price of gas WAS a big piece of the puzzle. It increased cost across the board for everything, which leads to layoffs as businesses struggle to stay financially competitive. When gas went north of $4.00 is approximately the same time the recession started, along with crazy loans, ect ect. It was a "perfect storm" of a number of things.

My cat would have qualified for a mortgage in 2007, but he wouldn't be able to drive back and forth to work.

Glenn Beck Set to Lose on His New Canaan Home - Not That He Needs the Money (Shelterpop)

Dec 19th 2009 12:11PM Just commenting is general. I lived in Tampa 99-03 and Glen Beck was just a normal on air (radio) personality who I can't remember making a policitcal comment the 4 years I was there. He mostly ripped on the sports teams, that kind of stuff. I moved back here in 04 and he shows up on Fox of all places. He would do CNN or MSNBC if he had been offered but Fox must of signed him first but he wan't a politico by any means. I cant remember a peep about the Bush/Gore run at all. He was just one of those goofy radio guys every city has. Now, he's a pundit.shhheeessss

Maybe now he's going to feel the pain a lot of homeowners have where their homes were overvalued and my cat could get a mortgage and have the rug pulled out of them. He better hold onto this job as being so vocal and visable means he's pigeonholed and no one would touch him somewhere else.

He didn't loose anything on the house. The price is just where is should be after Bush pushed these mortgages and home prices went through the roof. I stayed where I was because I knew the bubble would burst. People in extravagent houses they have no business being in (I didn't read the fine print). So what..Becks house is worth a lot less than it was when he bought it. I know a LOT of people who are in homes that has forced them to be a paycheck away for foreclosure. By 2012 or so, home prices will settle to where they should be. Rule of thumb is a house increases in value by about 5% every year of ownership.
