Teacher Suspended for Allegedly Making Kids Scrub Toilet (ParentDish)
May 27th 2011 4:46PM Something is very very wrong with this tale! The amatuer writer has to go to a British Tabloid, to find a 'story' about a school in his own backyard.
So tell me, who is in greater need of 'help', the teacher or the writer?
Michigan May Allow Under-10 Crowd to Go Hunting (ParentDish)
May 27th 2011 4:33PM It is good to see that there are still some folks around who know that meat does not just suddenly appear at the corner supermart, already wrapped in plastic bearing an 'expiration date'. Seventy five years ago, when I was five, rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, and venison were among the primary protein sources. The time frame was the mid 1930's, a box of .22 cartridges cost about 30 cents and could put thirty to forty rabbits on the table. It wasn't tradition or sport, it was survival. You raised chickens and hogs because they weren't picky about what they wanted to eat. A sudden summer thunder storm or a two cent a bushel price drop could make the difference between a decent diet and corn meal mush. A stream on the property taught the meaning of fresh fish, and the flyways usually brought enough ducks and geese to harvest for the winter months. There was a prevailing attitude that one took care of self, family, friends and neighbors, and in no uncertain terms told 'Nanny Government' to get the Hell out of the way!
When measured in Dollar Signs, those were the desperate hours, but they did tend to build character. Enough character to get the country through WWII. and still feed the rest of the world.
5 Delicious Foods You've Never Tried (Kitchen Daily)
May 17th 2011 6:45PM I will not presume to speak for the other posters but I was offended by the juvenile tenor of the whole brief article. As one who grew up on a farm in the 1930's I can assure you that each and every edible part of a protein source was greatfully utilized.
Organ meat and other so called scraps were basic to sausage and scrapple. Yes, we ate scrapple, the really poor folks only had cornmeal mush.
This exercise reminded me ever so much of Five Characters in Search of a Play.
On a larger scale it is evidence of the more rapid 'dumbing down' of AOL since they hooked up with Huff & Puff Media.
After a dozen years of watching the decline of AOL it is starting to look hopeless.

May 17th 2011 5:11PM Please get this writer(?) a dictionary! Offal is not consumed by humans, it is the inedible discard. For an uneducated 'hick' she sure has a superior attitude.

Vegan Magazine Apologizes for Meat Photos (Slashfood)
Apr 22nd 2011 5:12PM Your points are well taken. Asians on balance eat far less animal (including fish and fowl) than westerners mainly because they can't afford to. Hence the miniscule amounts included as flavoring and not main ingredients.
It would seem that that VEGAN diet causes a deep inbred animosity towards anyone who does not wholly endorse ti!
Vegan Magazine Apologizes for Meat Photos (Slashfood)
Apr 22nd 2011 4:54PM You are masquerading as a VEGAN! I'll bet you even wear leather shoes and wool sox. A true VEGAN uses NO animal products or parts.
Of course they are a testy bunch and use any excuse to stir up contraversy.
Anyway, educate yourself as to what you might be trying to espouse at any given moment in time!

Lawyers: Makers of Miley Sex Doll Should Get Ready To Pay Up (PopEater)
Apr 7th 2011 6:22PM Uh, anyone take notice that Miley is now refuting the fruit of the seed she has been sowing these last several years.
One cannot work so hard at exuding sex and not expect some of it to rebound.
On the other hand maybe it's just the dollar signs that attracted her attention.
