Senate committee takes on Web-based 'loyalty' marketing companies (WalletPop)

Sep 16th 2009 6:17AM I have dealt with Affinion in the past. They go by the names Great Fun, Traveler's Advantage, and about 20 others. Just look at rip-off report to see the depths of their depravity. When you buy an online flight, movie, magazine subscription, etc., a screen will come up asking you if you want to "save 20% on a rental car" or some other thing. IF YOU CLICK (only CLICK) on it to look at it and close it out because you don't want the service, they STILL take your credit card info from the info you gave the airline or whatever you bought. Our first time was a "customer loyalty" check from Budget that Budget told us to expect as we were frequent renters. We lost a couple hundred dollars before we caught it. Just TRY to get your money back in between the hang-ups from them. THEN, when I KNEW about the scam they got me a different way....thru the airline. They are insidious, sick, and twisted criminals who deal on the fringe of the law. I don't care what the employees have to say about it either. You will see when you try to get your money back. Don't be a victim. Check your credit card frequently in the months following an online purchase and look for suspicious charges for Great Fun. That is Affinion. They have been hit with 3 or 4 class action lawsuits already in California and ordered to pay out around $200 million. Please be careful.

Man Pays $350 Electric Bill With Pennies...Electric Co. Not Amused (Switched)

Mar 16th 2009 6:43PM There shouldn't be a "rule" saying what percentage of your bill can be paid in change. That is ludicrous. Maybe if they weren't charging up the arse for fuel surcharges even though the cost of a gallon has dropped to half of what they are charging, he wouldn't have felt disenfranchised enough to make such a statement. If you want the darn money, you will take it how the customer gives it to you or you don't f-ing get it in my opinion.

Mike Vick Fined $25 for Not Wearing Seat Belt (Fanhouse NFL Blog)

Aug 19th 2007 10:11AM A law was recently passed in Virginia to the effect that if you are a resident of the state, you are subject to outrageous civil penalties IN ADDITION to the normal fines. It is sickening! It is all because the state of VA has been throwing money around to incompetent contractors for the last decade and the road fund is literally BROKE! Mr. Vick is just lucky it was only $25. Going 20 miles over will net you a fine of $1,050 + $61 for court costs + the original fine of $200. I included the link to the USA Today story. Check it out. I am glad to be moving in November!
