Jun 22nd 2011 2:31AM According to police reports, Ryan Dunn was driving his own car that night, so he was responsible for the death of another human being. He used bad judgement by driving after drinking. If he had not died in the accident, he would have been charged with vehicular homicide and DUI. When someone is killed by a drunk driver, everyone is always furious about it- except for when Ryan Dunn is the drunk? I don't get it. What did Mr. Ebert say that was so wrong or insensitive? If Dunn's friends had stopped him from driving that night, maybe two more people would be alive right now. Truth. It can be tough.

May 31st 2011 11:08AM I agree with another comment here- it seems that Storm is a boy, based on Jazz saying, "What if HE wants to wear pink someday?" That may have been an assumption on Jazz' part, since the question was asked before Storm was born. Still....

The mother is well written and thoughtful. I wouldn't have done this with my own kids, but I don't have a huge issue with her philosophy. It wouldn't hurt any of us to hold our gender-related expectations in check a little more, and I think that's what she's trying to do for her child. The press attention will probably have more of a negative impact than not telling the gender of the child will. If everyone is so interested in the wellbeing of this child, maybe we should all stop paying this so much attention, and get on with trying to make our own lives better by being less voyeuristic and judgemental about the parenting decisions of others.

Mar 22nd 2011 12:53AM My son's life was being destroyed by his ADD. He was failing socially, academically, and athletically. He is 'off the charts smart', but couldn't learn in his classes, got in trouble a lot for 'not paying attention', etc. After years of resisting going the medication route, I finally agreed to let him be tested, and treated with medication. He was given a prescription for Concerta. The first day he took it, he went to school, and then called me at his first break, at 10 AM. With emotion in his voice, he said, "Mom, it's like I've been wearing someone else's prescription glasses all my life, and today I got my own pair!" His grades improved, his social life improved, and he started to succeed at his passion- acting. When he graduated from high school, he received a full scholarship to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. There's no stopping him now. For him it was simple: No medication, no life. Concerta, full, normal, successful life! I'm still kicking myself for waiting until he was in junior high to get him this help. That's our story.

Dec 16th 2010 7:15PM I am SOOO tired of hearing 'f$#k*' and 'sh*#' over and over and over and over every da! ! It seems like young people know only those words and about ten more profanities, and that's their total vocabulary.

I miss the days when people were careful when and where they used profanity. Even the most potty-mouthed person wouldn't use profanity around women- especially women who were over 40 or so. Now, it's impossible to avoid hearing it everywhere! It's not that I'm so puritanical that I can't handle it, it's just that common decency and even simple street manners have gone by the wayside. It's a sign of our entire country becoming classless and common. No one is revered or respected. It's a shame.

Sep 22nd 2010 2:30PM Here's some one-upsmanship for you all- I'm 6'2" and 57 years old. Here's the real truth": Being taller than everyone around you when you're young is awful. Being taller than everyone around you when you're a young adult is mostly OK, except for when you're looking for a date or a dance partner. Being taller than everyone around you when you're approaching your senior years stinks again. Only when you're at the age when people say, "Are you a model?" is it fun to be extrememly tall.

Advice for tall girls and young women: Think how hard most people have to work to get the attention that you get by just walking into a room. It's what you do with that attention that counts. People are going to look at you anyway- so give them something to remember. If you want to appear shorter, stand up straighter. Stooping brings extra attention to your height. My son is 19 and 6'6". He's an actor and performer. He's always being complimented on his height. I guess that means that one advantage of being a really tall woman is that you can give your kids the gift of height. And that's pretty cool.
