I can speak from experience, having come from a very long line of people who have lived in huge homes since the 17th century, that what you bequeath to your descendants with such white elephants are lifetimes of ever steep maintenance costs and taxes and ever dwindling economic resources. Think of your descendants, put that money in a growth trust, and make happy with a more modest approach to living.
