Teacher Says She Doesn't Regret Punching Student in Face (ParentDish)

Jun 6th 2011 6:47PM When I was in school we held up our hand for permission to speak, and if we were out of line, we went to the principal's office where we received either a stern reprimand, a call to our parents, detention or swats...yes, with a paddle! They never really hurt (Some of us would rather have the "swats" than have the school tell our parents!)but it made us straighten up and fly right! We would NEVER think of threatening our teachers in any way! Thats why, as a taxpayer, I cringe when I'm told of another tax or fee "to benefit our children". What a load of baloney! Make the kids pay attention in school and do the work PERIOD! And get the parents to start acting like REAL parents and take responsibility for their messed up kids!

Steven Rossitto Is a 16-Year-Old Sinatra (Urlesque)

Mar 21st 2011 4:30PM The kid's amazing! Some of you are kinda missing the point though...even Sinatra didn't sound like classic Sinatra early in his career. Read the biographies, Frank didn't impress very many when he was a youngster! It wasn't until he got older and had more experience under his belt that he became "the Voice". So...let's see where this kid is at in 4-5 years.

Would You Drink for Two? (ParentDish)

Sep 5th 2010 7:03PM If what some of you are posting is true, then I would venture a guess that over 2/3 of the world-wide population is suffering from some sort of "fetal-something-syndrome".
What did our Moms and Grandmas do back in the day without this vital information? And what about other countries that don't have access to the experts here on aol? Their kids are doomed, I guess.
Mom and Grandma had a little drink every now and then...and a few cigarettes too...and second-hand smoke from Dad and Grandpa...and, uh oh, here comes some steak or liver. And guess what? The kids came out just fine! Your kid doesn't have some learning disability from that glass of wine you drank in your second trimester...he's just being a kid and getting away with not doing the work because you bought into the whole "time-out" thing. Most kids actually suffer from a "lazy-parent-syndrome". So expectant mom has a glass of wine...big deal...probably less harmful to the unborn kid than the stress of someone yelling at her about the evils of drinking while pregnant.

Pop-Ed: Who's In and Who's Out at 'Saturday Night Live'? (PopEater)

Sep 3rd 2010 5:48PM The show hasn't been OVERALL funny for years. Sure, its had its moments here and there, but even a blind dog finds a bone once in a while. And, by letting sub-par material on the air, its kind of a slap in the face to those of us who were there for the first seasons. Lorne has this "youth thing" regarding the cast, apparently he is the only one allowed to age gracefully. And some of the bits could be a LOT funnier if they'd write endings! Also, how many more "parodies" of talk shows do we have to endure? Boring...

Julien Macdonald Calls Plus-Size Models a 'Joke' (Stylelist)

Jun 14th 2010 7:09PM HELLO....most male designers are gay...get it?
This is NOT a bash against gays at all, it's just that THEIR definition of what makes a woman beautiful is probably not the same as what WE would consider. Face it, if they were attracted to curvaceuos, gorgeous women's bodies...they wouldn't be gay! LOL.
Seriously, when more straight men start designing women's clothes, there will be a shift toward real female shapes. When you take a look at men's magazines, by men, FOR men...what do you see? It ain't the waif (unless its a paid ad). Guys like to look at women that look like WOMEN!

Reports: Adam Ant Sent to Psychiatric Hospital Again (PopEater)

May 24th 2010 2:13PM We tend to just hear the music and a few words, and then think we "know" the song, or the artist. For instance:
"Don't drink, don't smoke...what DO you do?"
"Don't drink , don't smoke...what do you do?"
"Subtle innuendo follows...must be something inside (He's hiding)" This is from his famous years when he was being followed by the press, trying to dig deeper into who is "Adam Ant". He doesn't drink, doesn't smoke? Hmmm...I wonder what he's hiding. No one is a true "Goody Two-Shoes". Shows a side of him that is very obsevant, and somewhat paranoid. But I always enjoyed "Ant music".

Everybody Loves Jeff Dunham -- Or Do They? (Inside TV Blog)

Dec 29th 2009 6:45PM You're missing a couple of key points:
1. You left out Walter, a hilarious character! We ALL know a "Walter", maybe not old, maybe not even male, but we all know someone like him, and it's just plain funny!
2. Achmed is a DEAD terrorist. And yes, we need more DEAD terrorists in the world! If you can't find the humor in Achmed, then you aren't qualified to write about comedy. PERIOD. And I love the fact that in Jeff's world, there are no 72 virgins for dead terrorists, there is no honor in blowing up anything, you're just a charred skeleton to be held up to ridicule. Yeah, it IS funny.
3. Peanut is not a monkey. Peanut is Mr Hyde to Jeff's Dr Jekyl...only without ANY restraints or pretense or agenda. He is simply...a "Blurt". No editing mechanism, no measuring...just open mouth and BLURT! Too funny.
Sure, some of his stuff makes me wince a little bit...just like Chris Rock and George Lopez...but overall, its VERY entertaining and funny.
And it doesn't NEED an additional character to sum it all up and put a posive spin on it all..I can do that for myself, I don't need YOU to think for me!

20 Best Gibberish Lyrics: No. 1 (Spinner)

Feb 17th 2008 8:41PM Um...I guess I'm the only one here old enough to remember DONOVAN...from the 60's? "E-lec-tricle ba-na-na..." (from the song, Mellow Yellow) and "first there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is". LOL.
Or how about T-REX..."well you're built like a car, you got a hub-cap diamond star halo...you're built like a car, oh yeah!" (from the song, Bang a Gong)
And can anybody de-cypher the lyrics of what I think should be the number one gibberish-lyric song of all time... "Incense and Peppermints" by the Strawberry Alarm Clock?

First-Ever Driving While Texting Ticket Issued (Switched)

Nov 20th 2007 2:36PM You know, its kinda sad that we even have to make laws that dictate common sense. Texting while driving, especially in heavy traffic, is just plain stupid, and yet here in L.A., I see it all the time. I also see people driving, while juggling the cell phone in one hand, and the Starbucks cup in the other! Jeeze!

Smoking Bans on Cruise Ships Cost Millions in Cancellations (Gadling)

Sep 15th 2007 7:32PM I am a smoker. I have tried repeatedly to quit, and still will quit at some point. And here is why. Regardless of "rights" or arguments...the writing is on the wall. We are a "dying breed", one way or the other. Smoking is NOT good for you, or anyone around you. I, and many millions like me, got sucked into this addiction before it was commonly known how bad it was. I am old enough to remember smoking on the plane, in the movies, in any restaurant and club, at the store, in our offices, anywhere we felt like it. Non-smokers didn't appreciate it even then, but you heard nothing about 2nd hand smoke. In all the movies...John Wayne, Bogart, Dino, Robt Mitchum, James Dean, hell, ALL the "cool guys" smoked. On TV too. It was a part of our culture in a way! The US used to give G.I.s cigarettes in their rations! But, now we know about the dangers of smoking. And still we smoke. But...we are being phased out, either by our own health issues, or by law, or just by the fact that we are wising up and quitting. It's becoming a hassle to smoke anywhere in public anyway. That's just the way it is and will continue to get worse, and that's just fine with me. And taxes keep going up on cigarettes. I remember when cigs were 35 cents a pack. Now they are close to 5 dollars a pack (unless you get the 'buy-one-get-one-free' deal!). Look, it's pretty much a done deal. Its not "cool' to smoke, its an ugly habit, and it is dangerous. I do not have children, but if I did I would do everything in my power to NOT let them smoke. So, again I will try and quit. Let 'em ban cigarettes if they want to, it'll only help those of us trying to quit anyway. And for those of us who don't want to quit, we'll just continue paying steep prices and being ostracized for our habit. But as far as 'freedom' is concerned...we can still CHOOSE to smoke or not...and if we own businesses, we should be able to CHOOSE whether we want to cater to smokers or not. If you are a 'die-hard' smoker (no pun intended) then don't go into places that don't allow smoking. And if you're a non-smoker, then don't go to the places that allow it. Freedom. Choice. Simple. But, its not going to get easier for smokers, no matter how much you complain. Its going to get tougher and tougher. Thats the way it is, you'll just have to find some way to deal with it.
JMHO.
