Opinion: Happy Meal Toy Lawsuit Is Out to Lunch (ParentDish)
Jun 25th 2010 6:10PM The first intelligent post on here. Thank you for stating the truth. I wish more people would understand that fried chicken, french fries, hotdogs, burgers, etc have been around for, what, a hundred years ?? It's only in the past 20 years that physical education and outdoor play have been nearly wiped out. When I was in school, we had phys ed EVERY DAY. When I got home, I would do homework, go out and play, eat dinner, and go out and play some more. Our kids who are involved in sports may engage in something for about three or four hours a week, and nothing more. Encouraging exercise, and making it fun, is the key to staying healthy. Kids can eat McD's ( in moderation ) and stay healthy if you encourage them to burn off what they've eaten by exercising. Some parents just feel that it's easier to blame someone else rather than take responsibility.
Is it Smart to Sleep With Your Pets? (Shelterpop)
May 22nd 2010 8:57PM Actually, cats are nowhere near as clean as people. Their mouths have some of the nastiest bacteria and when they lick all over themselves, they spread the bacteria all over their bodies. Many more people suffer from allergies to cats than dogs, possibly due to the additional bacteria on their fur and skin. I don't know if having a cat sleep on the bed is bad, but under the sheets would be a bit too gross.

May 22nd 2010 8:46PM Territorial ? Only if you allow them to become that way. With your reasoning, no dog should be fed or played with because they might become territorial or aggressive. If you were just a little bit more motivated, you might actually try to train your dogs and then they wouldn't have to sleep in cages.

May 22nd 2010 8:33PM Sorry, but I've never seen a dog that likes a "den. " You people seem to be confusing domesticated dogs with wild dogs. Domesticated dogs have slept with and protected humans for hundreds of thousands of years ! If you want a dog to live in a crate or den, get a WILD DOG.
Is it Smart to Sleep With Your Pets? (Shelterpop)
May 22nd 2010 8:14PM Yes, dogs are pack animals and have lived with and slept with humans for hundreds of thousands of years. BTW, TIM, you seem like a redneck type. How many times are you going to repeat " dogs need to stay outdoors" ? Everyone else seems to disagree with you, and for good reason. WILD dogs, such as wolves and coyotes, BELONG OUTSIDE. These are NOT to be confused with domesticated dogs, as you seem to be doing. Most domesticated dogs DO NOT BELONG OUTSIDE. Short haired dogs cannot be left outside in the winter, and long haired dogs do not do well in hot climates. Outdoor dogs also get infested with fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and ( depending on the size of your dog ) get attacked by other predators. Dogs who are left outdoors lack any kind of attachment to humans and are less loving and less protective. They are, in my opinion, less stable and, therefore, more apt to bite anyone who crosses their path. In many situations, leaving a dog outdoors in all kinds of weather will get you reported to the authorities at animal control. Your dogs would probably be better off with someone who was better able to care for them. Why don't you consider giving them to a rescue group ?
The iPad Arrives: Our Review of the Reviews (Switched)
Apr 1st 2010 9:08PM This is probably one of the most uninteresting gadgets to come out this year. Doesn't have full PC capabilities, missing some important features, overpriced, over-hyped, and is so poorly lacking in security that it is not safe for business use. After reading about Apple products being a complete fail at the annual Pwn2own contest, I don't wonder why businesses don't use Apple products. That explains why most blogs mention that it's a great product to buy your grandma !
What 35 Looks Like: We Compare Three Celebs (Stylelist)
Mar 26th 2010 12:31PM Kate obviously had a free tummy tuck. They botched it pretty badly. Her skin is saggy at the bottom and they placed her belly button so high that it's nearly up to her chest. But, it was free......as for Fergie, the main thing that ages her is that her eye brows need a serious lift. The draping skin over her eyes is a common sign of aging, usually seen in people in their 40's or 50's. May be due to an overuse of Botox to fill in forehead wrinkles, which often causes the eyebrows to drop, giving the person a frozen, "angry" look. Eva looks good, even if she only does with makeup. At least she knows how to wear it ( although she should avoid dark or bright lipstick ) and seems to have avoided the surgeons knife. I agree with others, too, that Kate is not a star and doesn't fit in with Fergie and Eva. Isn't her 15 minutes of fame up yet ?
Bake Sales: Let Them Eat Junk! (ParentDish)
Mar 3rd 2010 2:30PM We used to have bake sales at my school when I was younger and ate all kinds of "crap" food, and I do not remember one single obese child being in ANY of my classes, nor do I remember any one child being particularly sickly. What I do remember is having PE every day and time on the playground at recess. Now, people are promoting "health" food, while Phys Ed is cut back in many schools to once a week. Many days the kids don't get to go outside at recess, and when they do, they stand around talking half of the time because they don't know any of the playground type games that we older parents used to play. I think the schools and parents are a bit misdirected. Having sweets in moderation, even every day, is ok. Not exercising and spending hours every day, sitting on your butt, is NOT ok.
If You Don't Have Kids, Can You Give Parents Advice? (ParentDish)
Feb 27th 2010 4:43PM Unfortunately, there are too many parents who have children that are absolutely MONSTROUS----the parent notices the bad behavior, but doesn't care. I have seen too many incidents where a parent did nothing to curb the bad behaviors of their children to believe that the inaction of the parent is due to stress. Some examples that I've witnessed ; A child breaks a huge and expensive snow globe at the Disney store on Black Friday---parent kicks the pieces under some shelving and walks away. Children at busstop tearing up the neighbors landscaping and repeatedly running into street---parents are too busy talking to eachother to notice. Children in a restaraunt run up and down the aisles, disrupting other diners and bumping into servers. After their meal, they leave the most atrocious mess behind--- their moms don't notice. Children at a playground push in front of a toddler who is about to go down a kiddie slide, nearly shoving him off of it. Mom watching on and says,"be careful!"---watches as her child does it again, and again, and again....Elementary school child has a temper tantrum in class and spits on a teacher--- parent is called into school and asks the teacher, "what did you do to upset him ?" Child teases a dog, pulling on the dogs ears and pokes it in the eyes---parent thinks it's cute.... until the dog bites. Then the dog suffers the consequences.
Too many children are lacking discipline and are horribly rude, and too many parents deal with it by issuing "time-outs" and offering up excuses. I have 5 children and, though they are not perfect, not one would never be allowed to behave badly in public or be disrespectful to people or animals. I won't allow my kids to associate with children who act like trash, either. I make it a point to give advice to ignorant parents that lack basic parenting skills, whether they want the advice or not. I think those who don't have children have a right to say what they want to clueless parents, too....and if you have badly behaved kids and don't appreciate advice ? KEEP YOUR KIDS HOME UNTIL THEY LEARN HOW TO ACT LIKE SOCIAL HUMAN BEINGS
Rachael Ray Fears She Will Have to Put her Dog to Sleep (Pawnation OLD)
Feb 12th 2010 6:18PM @Darla
Couldn't have said it better myself. The ignorant people that you're referring to on this board talk like they're inbred hillbillies. Anyone who would blame a dog for acting out like Rachael's did is a clueless, uneducated idiot. It has nothing to do with the breed, or the animal. I've had worse bites from smaller dogs when I worked at a vets office, but understood that they were terrified and were in defense mode. I had a cat bite that nearly cost me my arm and new a lady that nearly died from a cat scratch on her face. I guess we should eradicate all toy poodles, dachsunds and cats ?!
