Are YOU Friends With An Ex? {Queer Sighted}
Aug 21st 2007 5:29PM i've stayed really good friends with all of my exs. my advice for people who feel that it is a healthy and good thing they'd like to try from now on:
a)be a kind and considerate person. i don't think self-centered jerks are capable of being friends after a breakup.
b) if you are the one doing the dumping, put yourself in their shoes and try to be as supportive and compassionate as you can. do something special with them that shows that even though you're not romantically interested anymore, you still care about them as a person and value them as a friend.
c) if you're being dumped, be supportive and understanding rather than angry and mean. its painful for both people involved, not just you. treat the person like a friend who has just gone through something difficult, and then give them the space that they need.
d) hang out with groups of friends rather than one on one until all romantic tension is gone, especially if one or both of you are seeing someone else. temptation can ruin all chances at a good friendship.
e) have a sense of humor about your past. embrace the occasional awkward moment like the inside joke it should be.
that's about it, good luck kids! (ps getting back together is soemtimes a possibilty when you stay friends, but don't do it unless you feel that the situation has really changed because otherwise you're just going to have the same problems again)
Walking Wastes Energy, Harms Planet {News Bloggers}
Aug 8th 2007 1:23PM An obvious mistake in this equation is that while the man is paying attention to the energy required to produce 180 calories of food that propels the human being, he is ignoring the amount of energy and land required to manufacture the car, the road, and the gasoline. cars have a huge ecological footprint.
Also, consider that while drilling for oil is a substantial ecological risk at best and a cause of horrible war and human suffering at worst, raising even the most envirnmentally unsavory agricultural products is a relatively benign and peaceful practice.
Besides, most people will eat that 180 calories whether they plan or burning it off or not.. might as well put the food you eat to good use.
InstaPollAmericaNow -- Mourning the Weekly World News {News Bloggers}
Jul 24th 2007 11:10AM My two favorites of all time were "Dolphin Born with Human Arms" and "Farmer Finds 6 Ft. Grasshopper in Field". My Nana, god bless her soul, used to give us mason jars full of nickels she had saved up and make us kids go to the corner store to buy her the weekly world news (which she totally believed was real, especially the catholic stories) and lottery tickets. i still can't believe the cashiers used to sell us lottery tickets when we were 8, 9 10 years old.
We're All Gay -- The Only Question is How Much? {News Bloggers}
Jul 5th 2007 3:34PM my viewpoint is exactly the same only different from everyone else's! i lovehate everyone! i'm an atheist the way only a person brought up in christian society can be, and am a christian the way only someone brought up in a secularized culture can be. i buy things at walmart and hate consumerism. I'm a vegetarian who eats steak to lose wieght. whatever i can't live without, i call evil. whoever can live without those things, i call dangerous. and and i refuse to ever re-evaluate my preconceived notions about people and right and wrong! i will take advantage of the anonymity of the internet to aggressively attack ideas as if that could change the world and make it more like what i want. my point of view is awesome, why doesn't everyone think like me?
Should you go veg? {That's Fit}
Jun 27th 2007 9:57AM When my cousin and I became vegetarians, we promised ourselves something : that we would always still eat our mothers' meatballs (we're italian) and have turkey on thanksgiving. We rationalized that enough love and pleasure goes into these meals to balance the suffering and death involved in creating them. I'll also occasionally eat bar-b-que'd meat and fish if there's no veggie option at a summer holiday get together, because the animal's already cooked at that point and the compassionate thing then is to give thanks to your host and enjoy. But when i'm on my own or with vegetarian friends, I don't miss meat and I never feel like I'm lacking anything. People have been eating meat for so long, I don't think our culture will ever be completely vegetarian, and I wouldn't want it to be. There's something very universal and significant about celebrating a feast with meat, and I think that's beautiful and delicious. But I don't think meat should be an "everyday" food for us. Its too environmentally costly and the way most of it is raised and prepared these days, not very healthy.
