If you're like most people, you're a little unsure of how to best clean that new high-definition flat-panel display you just dropped a couple grand on. Whatever you do, don't use Windex: That all-purpose cleaner can make your LCD panel look foggy. And paper towels? Fuggedaboutit. Those household staples can leave scratches on your plasma. In addition, LCD and plasma screens have special coatings that can be damaged by too much wiping.

Sadly, modern sets require more modern cleaning techniques than your old tube-based TV. For those who absolutely must have the best, or at least the most expensive, Frontgate offers this $30 flat screen care kit. It includes a "specially formulated gel" plus a micro-fiber cleaning cloth, all packaged into a lovely wooden case that would look perfect sitting atop one of those giant '80s-era paneled big-screen television sets.

If $30 seems a bit much (or the wood grain is not for your tastes), you can always go the cheaper route: a slightly damp (with water) cotton cloth and gentle strokes.

From The Red Ferret Journal

Related Links:

If you're a serious baseball fan, keeping up with your favorite team on the go can be a real challenge. Even if you have a portable media player and the means to record TV (which may or may not be legal), five or six games a week at three-plus hours per is an awful lot of video to store. However, if that media player happens to be an iPod, you'll soon have a much more realistic option. According to MacMinute, this season iTunes will be offering daily 25 minute shows giving you the highlights of what you're missing. And for those who just need to see the whole game, two of the hottest match ups each week will be singled out as "Games of the Week" and will be available in full.

Now, before you get too excited, remember this is iTunes and premium (not to mention legal) content doesn't come for free. At $1.99 per download, your diamond addiction could put a serious hurting on your bank account over the course of a season. That said, you'll be able to get a package that includes a month's worth of highlight shows for $7.99, which is a pretty good deal (and for $19.99, you can get an entire season, which is a steal).

Device convergence can be great: if you're going out on the town and don't want to carry a camera and a phone, you can just bring your trusty Nokia N93. But as companies stuff cameras in cellphones, movie players in gaming devices, gaming devices in cellphones, and even pedometers in music players, it seems they start to lose focus on the quality of those individual features. Take, for instance, the Mach Speed Trio TV5 recently reviewed by Crunchgear. On the surface, it sounds wonderful: it plays MP3, movies, takes pictures, and does photo slideshows. Sounds like a great companion to a road trip, right?

Turns out the Trio TV5 is a jack of all trades, master of none. According to Crunchgear, the device does none of the above functions all too well. The 5 megapixel camera was disappointing in low-light situations as it sports no flash. The video and mp3 playback appeared fine at first until one considers that the onboard memory of 512MB (upgradeable to 2GB) leaves one with very little headroom. It seems the the Trio TV5 does everything on paper, but in the real world it seems to disappoint.

What do you think? Is device convergence a wonderful convenience, or do you carry each device to make sure you're doing things right?
