Whether it's made of leather or vinyl or even Tyvek, the wallet feels incredibly dated and often quite bloated-- especially when over-stuffed with faded and torn membership cards. It creates an unsightly bulge that's even more pronounced with the smaller and shorter summer clothes most of us are about to start wearing

For one enterprising blogger, the solution to the overstufed, George-Costanza-style wallet is an iPhone. Albert Alberts used his scanner to digitally replicate many of his membership cards. He then created an album called WalletCards on his iPhone and loaded the images of the cards in. Surprisingly, most establishments had no problem accepting the copied cards, and bar code scanners even read them.

Naturally you won't be able to replace anything that relies on a magnetic strip or embedded RFID chip, but if you can replace everything else, you might that this trick could help you slim down that beat wallet by a good margin -- just don't try it with your driver's license. On June 9th, Steve Jobs will be speaking at WWDC. Plans are vague right now, but we understand he will give two lectures on Sudoku, a shirt-folding seminar, and will discuss the possibilities of using a perpetual motion machine to replace the engine in his 1986 Volvo. Afterwards, every developer gets a hug and a low five. It's unlikely he'll discuss the 3G iPhone.
Our brethren over at Engadget Chinese had the chance to size-up HTC's new Windows Mobile 6.1 Touch Diamond with Apple's iPhone this morning in Taiwan. And as Apple has already changed the way people everywhere listen to and collect music, we're sure they're equally excited about making an impact on the mobile gaming marketplace.

According to the Industry Standard "A trademark extension filed last February with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office extends Apple's trademark in regards to:

'Toys, games and playthings, namely, hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games.'"

That's a mouthful, for sure, but it also points to Apple's renewed interest in the gaming arena, which is certainly hot, although competitive as all get out. This isn't Apple's first effort in gaming, but the last time the company tried to find its way with a gaming device was in 1996, during the non-Steve Jobs era. The device console, called the Pippin, was a failure.

Now the iPhone and the iPod Touch are flying high. Could this be the time for Apple to make its mark with yet another way to keep you focused on a tiny LCD screen? You might remember that last summer NBC announced that it would be pulling its shows off iTunes because it wanted to saddle its videos with more restrictive Digital Rights Management (DRM) and be able to jack up its prices. Regardless of its motives, fans of NBC, Sci-Fi Channel, or Bravo shows who also had iPods and iPhones were out of luck.

But five months after the official end of the iTunes and NBC partnership, there is some hope on the horizon for the fans of at least two of NBC's Thursday-night comedies. The network has launched an iPhone and iPod Touch friendly version of its Web site featuring full episodes of two of its most popular shows, 'The Office' and '30 Rock,' with more to follow, we're sure.

Best of all, the episodes are free, unhindered by DRM, and completely lacking commercial interruption. Just don't exit Safari or you'll be forced to download the videos all over again. For those that need to be in the know about the very latest supposedly-leaked 3G iPhone shots that hit the web this week, we've got you covered -- but we're not convinced, especially of the device on the right. The shots on the left do at least seem to be crafted around those supposed size and shape leaks we saw the other day though, so bonus points there for playing into another current rumor to rack up a small bit of credibility. Still, in our best Rick James voice, Photoshop's a hell of a tool.

Read - Left four shots appear on Chinese phone forum
Read - Shot on the right from AppleInsider

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ryan Block

Best iPhone Accessories

Filed under: Cell Phones, iPhone, Summer Fun
Chances are, you treat your iPhone better than you treat your children. You lavish it with attention, show it off to friends, and rub its underside when its battery is low. It sleeps next to you, and turning it on is your first order of business in the morning. So why not make it happy with some top-notch accessories? We've compiled a list of the best in every category -- and make your iPhone love you as much as you love it. It's ultra slim and made of quality, hardshell plastic -- something not the case with most of its competition (no pun intended), which quite drastically change the silhouette of the phone. On the inside are rubber guardrails, which provide shock absorption, and the bottom cover is removable, making it fit easily in most docks (the device is actually thin enough that it fit in all of our docks as-is). And then, of course, there are the looks: It's shiny, black or white Storm Trooper plastic that just looks awesome. It sounds crazy, but we like the way our iPhone looks more with the case on than without it. (And incase just released a black matte version if a more understated, non-Storm-Trooper look is more up your alley.)

French iPhone blog iPhon.fr got these pics from an anonymous and unverified source, and while there's no way of telling if the shots are legit, they certainly have a truthy ring to them. They follow what we know so far about the shape, size and color of the upcoming 3G iPhone, and while there's always the possibility of knockoff, a Photoshop job, or some other evil plot to mislead us, we're certainly not going to discount these shots entirely in the runup to iPhone's second coming. Freak.

Best Case:

incase Slider

We've put quite a few cases on our iPhones, and there's a clear winner: incase's Slider ($34.99).

According to Fortune, AT&T will subsidize the cost of the new, 3G iPhone by as much as $200, bringing the price within the $199 range. Apparently, a "person familiar with the strategy" claims that the provider will create this bargain bonanza for customers signing new, two-year contracts. Of course, the author of the story also says that the new phones will be available in "8-gigabit-memory and... 16-gigabit-memory" versions (for $399 and $499, respectively), so take that as you like.

In addition to these discounts, the source says the new iPhone will be 2.5mm thinner than the previous iteration, although we understand that right after telling Fortune this information, the "person" burst into a cloud of rainbow-colored sparkles and went flying off into the night sky. A trusted source got a chance to check one out, here's what we've heard.

The first thing people will notice: the 2nd gen iPhone will be about the same size and shape as the first gen.

It will, of course, have 3G. And proper GPS!

The most noticeable physical difference is back of the phone is no longer metal -- the whole thing is glossy black, from top to bottom. The volume buttons are now chrome.

Because it's got a little less metal to deal with, it doesn't have quite as many angular edges. The battery is (still) not removable.

The phone itself will be slightly thicker than the first gen device.

The headphone jack will no longer be recessed, and will finally be flush with the body.

The device itself uses roughly the same size and resolution screen as the first generation product.

No solid word on battery life or capacity.

It could ship (or be introduced) as early as July -- but it's worth noting that none of this is necessarily finalized, and any of it could change between now and its introduction. You really never know with Apple!

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ryan Block

3G iPhone Expected On June 9?

We've been awaiting the announcement of the 3G iPhone since, well, the announcement of the first-gen iPhone ages ago. Many were disappointed at that first announcement that Apple's first phone wouldn't take advantage of the fastest wireless network features of the day and felt sure that the company would rectify it later with an updated phone. Now, analysts believe, we're not far from the release of the newer, faster iPhones, and they also believe we'll see some other, cheaper iPhone models as well.

A few weeks ago AT&T's Mobility CEO indicated that the 3G iPhone was coming within three months, and this latest report backs that up. Then there's the rumored "2.5G" iPhone, which will feature the same basic features as the original iPhone in a slightly redesigned package, also at a lower price: between $299 and $349. It's expected that these phones will be announced on June 9, during a Worldwide Developers Conference keynote that Steve Jobs will give, and, in typical Apple style, will find its way to retailers not long after.

So, again, while we'd hate to hinder Apple's plans to sell 10-million iPhones this year, we also say that right now seems like a really bad time to upgrade if you were thinking of investing in one of Apple's wunder-phones. Wait a couple of months -- you'll thank us later. Stuff.tv is kicking back in Nike's HQ at the moment and claims to have official word about Nike's future plans with Apple. It says that the Nike+ system will be "definitely" extend beyond the iPod nano to support the relatively bulky iPhone and iPod touch. Interestingly, it will leap-frog the proprietary wireless RF link between the shoe module and nano adapter to take advantage of Wi-Fi and eventually 3G.

This, of course, leads to all kinds of speculation with regard to Apple's "lifestyle companion" patent we showed you last month. 3G support would presumably allow for real-time coaching and uploads of your training activity through the Nike Plus website.

So let's see... cellphone (check), iPod (check), Internet device (check), handheld gaming (almost), and now a Nike lifestyle companion (could be).

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Thomas Ricker

Evidence of 3G iPhone in Software Update?

Intrepid geeks have dug up an intriguing bit of code buried deep in the confines of the latest iPhone software update. Rooting through millions of lines of code revealed reference to "SGOLD3," which very well may be a reference to the follow up to the S-GOLD2 chip from Infineon that powers the current iPhone.

S-GOLD3 is a 3G cell phone chip capable of downloading data at 7.2 megabits per second, about three dozen times faster than the current EDGE network the iPhone is saddled with. Currently AT&T's network is only capable of 3.6 megabits down, but that is plenty fast for a truly rich internet browsing experience.

The chip also adds support for higher resolution cameras (5 megapixels instead of 2) and an SD/MMC slot. This just adds to the mounting evidence that an iPhone with a blazing fast 3G data connection is right around the corner.

From Engadget

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Terrence O'Brien

Why You Should Wait to Buy the iPhone (Switched Podcast)

Filed under: Cell Phones, Advice, Editor's Picks, iPod, iPhone

Apple seems to think you're all a bunch of fat asses who need to get more exercise. Frankly, we're inclined to agree, you have been looking a little soft around the middle lately.

Apple has already teamed with Nike on iPod and running shoe packages, and unveiled a plan to put iPod docks in treadmills for saving workout data, now a new patent reveals the boys in Cupertino may be working on a full fledged fitness program and accompanying hardware.

Sensors will record heart rate and other physiological information to be loaded into an accompanying iTunes like fitness software platform. You'll be able to set goals, track achievements, even create custom work out routines based on your goals and interests.

The software will "interview" users to gather information such whether you want to lose weight, or just tone up, if you wish to be very active, or only moderately active, and what activities you'll enjoy (such as martial arts, yoga, or marathon running). The app will work with your iPod Touch or iPhone to give you work out plans and collect data while your at the gym.

Check out AppleInsider for all the mock ups of what will likely be known as iFit.

From AppleInsider

Related links:

When it comes to gadgets, it seems there always has to be a fly in the ointment. For the iPhone, it's slow network speed. Yes, the device is a lovely piece of kit, with a smooth, functional UI (user interface) and a nice form-factor, but -- due to the slower AT&T EDGE network -- it doesn't deliver the speeds for Web surfing or e-mail downloading that competing 3G phones offer.

As a result, even since the iPhone's launch, there's been talk of a 3G version of the phone, which would offer considerably faster downloads. It's been mostly rumors, but now we have a pretty clear indication that the 3G iPhone will be out by this summer. That's because earlier this week, AT&T's Mobility CEO spilled the beans at a press event and told reporters that all of AT&T's smart devices would be offered in 3G flavors within the next three months, including the iPhone.

So, faster iPhones are good news, right? Yes, but there's still a catch: You won't be able to upgrade your current phones. If you took the plunge as an early adopter, or even if you waited a good six months before buying in, you're still going to be stuck with slower speeds than those who waited until this summer. Alas, those are the breaks.

But this is great news for anyone who held off on buying an iPhone, which is still most people. To those people, we would say wait until this summer before you plunk down any cash for an iPhone.

From TUAW

Related Links:

The other shoe may be about to drop for those who have been holding off on buying an iPhone: According to analysts at Bank of America, Apple is expected to launch a high-speed (read: 3G) version of the device in the second quarter of 2008.

"Our latest channel checks point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month of June after an initial small build in May," Bank of America analyst Scott Craig told Reuters. This falls in line with the thoughts of many other analysts, who have said they expect Apple to launch an advanced iPhone around that time -- right around Apple's World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC).

AT&T said last year it expects to be able to sell a 3G version of iPhone in 2008, but it declined to comment on specific launch dates last week.

From Reuters

Related Links:

We've published a number of articles about disturbing surveys focused on how technology affects our sex lives. MSNBC contributor Brian Alexander has compiled a boatload of information on the subject from several surveys in one surprising look at technology and our bedroom manners.

In addition to lowering your sperm count and potentially deforming the little guys in your man-batter, cell phones are adding to our technological distractions. Marta Meana, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Nevada, says that cell phones are part of our culture of multi-tasking, which is preventing us from making "quiet time to have sex." And we already know that 37 percent of you are taking your laptops to bed with you.

Even worse, almost 50 percent of British men said they would give up sex for six months in exchange for a free 50-inch plasma television. Not disturbing enough? Only 25 percent would give up chocolate as part of the same deal.

One sure way to put a nail in your sex life's coffin is to put a TV in the bedroom. An Italian study showed that simply putting a television in the bed room cut the amount of sex a couple had in half.

We obviously love our tech and gadgets here at Switched, but we could never choose the Internet or TV over intercourse. What's wrong with you people?

View Poll

From Shiny Shiny and MSNBC

Related Links:

The IPhone is very popular. It is so popular in fact that Apple retailers in New York are finding it impossible to keep on their shelves.

On Wednesday, all three locations - the original SoHo store, the 59th Street store and the one on West 14th Street in Manhattan were completely sold out. When asked when new shipments were coming in, a definitive answer wasn't given, according to Danny Shea of the Huffington Post. A representative was kind enough to point out that AT&T Wireless Stores also sells the iPhone. Several New York AT&T locations do, in fact, have the coveted gadget in stock. Or you can just order it online.

Now take a deep breath and relax.

From The Huffington Post

Related Links:

It is a common story. People love everything about their IPhone except the stupid touchscreen keypad. Too many typos, so little time.

My Touch Keys is a solution to this ubiquitous source of frustration -- a very simple solution. My Touch Keys is actually a thin layer of plastic with holes cut out where the iPhone keypad characters are. The skin is completely transparent -- the blue tint in the press photos is just for effect. There are no adhesives, as the plastic skin uses static cling to adhere tightly to the iPhone surface. The small holes in the plastic give the user increased tactile feedback, ensuring that texts and e-mails are delivered without as many typos.

My Touch Keys is $7.99.

From OhGizmo!

Related Links

Apple is participating in talks with major record labels about new music distribution models, and the company is considering offering unlimited access to the iTunes Music Store at a premium. Unlike the current pay-per-download (a-la-carte) distribution model, the new model would enable music fans to purchase an Apple music device loaded with unlimited access to the entire iTunes store (over 6,000,000 songs).

This approach to music access is similar to Nokia's "Comes with Music" deal with Universal Music, where the cost of the unlimited music subscription is built into the cell phone. Apparently, the latest word from the talks is that the negotiations hinge on the price that Apple would pay for unlimited access to the labels' music libraries.

From FT, AOLNews, and Engadget

Related Links

It's been awhile since the iPhone rocked the mobile world with its simple aesthetics, supple user interface, and overwhelming media hype. The buzz has been silenced as people have long-since settled into the day-to-day routine with their gadgets, but a recently uncovered patent application by Apple indicates that the now familiar iPhone could have looked quite a bit differently at release, or may hint at a second, smaller flip iPhone that's still in the pipeline for some future release.

The patent application pictured above shows what is called a dual-sided touchpad. It's a translucent touchpad that would flip up, clamshell-style, to protect the screen of the phone, though you could still control the phone with the phone closed. For more touch-intensive apps, you could flip it open and use the inside of the touchpad with your index finger.

It looks like a great way to interact with a relatively small-screened device, while also protecting the screen from scratches and from fingerprints. What we don't know, though, is whether this was just an idea that proved impossible to implement or is a device that is, right this very moment, going through the rigors of refinement and testing prior to release.

We probably won't have an answer to that until one of these shows up in the hand of Steve Jobs held high at some Apple event or another. One thing's for sure: Fantasy or reality, we're flipping for this dream of an iPhone.

From Engadget and Unwired View

Related Links:
That's why we recommend phones with actual, physical keyboards to anyone who tends to send a lot of text-messages or e-mails. Luckily, most of the smart phones out there feature actual keyboards. While the rest of the economy (and the computer industry along with it) flounders, Apple is apparently making out like a bandit. According to industry analyst NPD, Apple's share of computer sales rose from 9 percent to 14 percent in the month of February, while increasing its share of market revenue from 16 percent to 25 percent.

Notebook sales have been climbing in general, but Apple is growing at about three times the rate of the rest of the industry. And, most surprising, Apple's sales of desktop PCs has increased 55% since last February, a time during which the rest of the industry has seen desktop PC sales shrink by 5 percent.

Also surprising is Apple's continued revenue increases, even in the face of sagging iPod sales, which are actually down from the same time last year.

From AppleInsider

Related Links:
Over 15 titles are expected in 2008 from the 'Loft (which sounds a bit ambitious, honestly), and, in related news, iD software founder John Carmac has confirmed that his company will be entering the iFray as well.

Now, get those fingers out of your nose and start exercising them.

From Engadget

Related Links:
It's amazing how quickly pieces of technology can become not only an accepted, but also indispensable parts of everyday life. It's hard to believe, but the MP3 player, now more accurately called the Digital Audio Player (DAP) or Personal Media Player (PMP), is 10 years old. Of course, most people just call it the iPod, but that's a whole other story.

It was back in March of 1998 that the world first got a glimpse of the MPMan F10 at the CeBit tech trade show in Hanover, Germany. The prototype garnered enough attention that, by May of that year, the Korean company Saehan Information Systems was mass producing the devices. By summer of 1998, the 32-megabyte (MB) flash device was on sale in the U.S. for $250.

At 3.6 x 2.75 x 6.5-inches, the MPMan was significantly larger than any media player on the market right now, save some of the largest wide screen video players. The Walkman-sized-device could only hold a small handful of songs, and its display was only slightly fancier than your standard digital alarm clock.

By now, of course, Saehan Information Systems and its MPMan are all but forgotten. In fact, many mistakenly point to the Diamond Multimedia Rio PMP300 as the first commercially available MP3 player, but the MPMan beat that CD-player-sized wonder to market by several months.

The bulkiness and limited capabilities of both devices may make them seem quaint when compared to your 32-gigabyte (1000 times the capacity of the original MPMan) iPod Touch, but these archaic devices helped spark a revolution that has completely changed the way we buy and consume music and media.

Gallery: The First MP3 Player

From Register Hardware (via Engadget)

Related Links:
Today Apple officially unveiled its anticipated iPhone / iPod Touch SDK (software development kit) that will allow third parties to create applications that take full advantage of those devices' capabilities without all the hacking. A whole host of applications and games will be available via the "App Store" either on your iPod Touch or iPhone or in iTunes when it launches in June as part of the iPhone 2.0 software update.

On the productivity side, Salesforce.com and AOL are working on applications for the devices. Salesforce will be offering an iPhone-specific interface for its customer relationship manager and sales tracking software for the mobile professionals, and AOL will offer a version of its ubiquitous AIM instant messaging application.

But if AIM wasn't enough to excite you, then check out the games. Apple developers threw together a quick demo called 'Touch Fighter,' a fully 3D space fighter game. Your craft is controlled by turning and tilting the handheld and you fire weapons by touching the screen. Sega is also getting in on the accelerometer-controlled gaming with a version of the popular (and quite addictive) 'Super Monkey Ball.'

But most exciting is the announcement of a version of the highly anticipated EA title 'Spore' from god-game guru Will Wright, creator of 'The Sims' and 'Sim City.'

Apps and games will vary in price, set by the developer. The software update to unlock these features will hit in June for free on the iPhone, and for a "nominal charge" on the Touch.

From Engadget

Related Links:

Woz with the hateration! After spending several months with Apple's wonderphone, Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniak has fallen decidedly out of love with the device.

"To tell you the truth I was really disappointed when the iPhone was introduced ... half the phones in the AT&T store at the time were 3G phones," Wozniak said at a press conference, according to a Sydney Morning Herald report. "I was shocked because Apple is bringing the full Internet [to mobiles] -- full Web pages with pictures and everything -- and it's not 3G and I knew that would be a speed detriment."

While he was one of the people who waited on line to get his iPhone on day one (several of them, in fact), Wozniak has grown increasingly annoyed. He isn't buying Apple's claims that the lack of 3G has to do with battery problems.

"I don't understand why it would be a battery issue -- I get as much life on my 3G phones as I get on my non-3G phones," he said.

Whatever the case, we're kinda with him on this one. Bring on the 3G iPhone, Apple!

From Wired

Related Links:
As more people switch to Mac and pick up iPhones, the Apple-built web browser Safari is becoming more and more popular. Though it still only makes up 4.5 percent of the web browser market, that is still a significant number of people who should take heed of PayPal's warning: Use another browser.

The online payment company is strongly suggesting that users visit the site with a different browser, be it IE7, IE8, Firefox, or Opera, since Safari (and its Firefox-based Mac cousin Camino) lack anti-phishing features. PayPal is a popular target for phishers who want to steal your login information, and then of course your money and possibly identity.

Modern versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera all warn you when you visit a suspicious web site, and IE7 and 8 as well as the upcoming Firefox 3 all support Extended Validation for extra protection from fraudulent sites.

The best way to protect yourself from phishers is to pay attention to small details yourself. Double check that E-mail address. Does the URL look suspicious? are there any cosmetic differences between the page you meant to visit and the one you're on now? While only you can make sure you never fall victim to these scams, a little help can't hurt.

From Slashdot

Related links:
Oklahoma Christian University (OC) is the latest in a long line of schools to get on the Apple bandwagon. Handing out new MacBooks to incoming students is hardly unique, but this new exchange program is.

Most of these programs are for new students only, but OC will offer current students an opportunity to trade in their Windows laptops for brand new Apple machines. And if that isn't enough, students will also be offered an iPhone or iPod touch.

OC's Apple hocking programs and campus-wide Wi-Fi put the university at the cutting edge of technology and education, so we're big fans.

From TUAW

Related links:
Apple has been busy this year with near-weekly announcements of new products: new iPods, updates to its laptop lines, Aperture and now a flurry of iPhone news. On Tuesday, the Cupertino-based company released the 1.1.4 software update to its wildly popular iPhone. Although the update consists primarily of bug fixes and performance improvements, bigger changes may be only weeks away.

Back in October, Apple promised that this month it would release an an iPhone SDK (software development kit), which will enable a growing third-party development community to build and release thousands of new applications for the handset. Now, it appears that it will be delayed until at least early March. (We can only guess, since the press received invitations from Apple to a March 6th event for the iPhone Software Roadmap.)

Why is this important? First, Apple hinted at enterprise solutions, which suggests more applications and security for business users, as well as the possibility that Apple may be preparing the iPhone to compete with the BlackBerry's business features.

In other iPhone news, Apple reaffirmed its confidence to selling 10 million iPhones, Jobs' goal for the product's first year. Apple's chief operating officer Tim Cook suggested that the current single-carrier system in the US -- exclusivity with AT&T -- is not permanent; Cook said to investors, "We're not married to any business model." Does this mean we'll see the iPhone on Verizon or Sprint some day?

From The Unofficial Apple Weblog, Reuters, Ars Technica, and Apple Insider

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Thomas Houston

University Gives iPhones to Freshmen

You're about to wish you attended ACU (Abilene Christian University) in Texas. Why? The university is about to hand out iPhones and iPod Touches to incoming freshmen. Jealous? We know we are.

Giving electronic gadgets to students is becoming the norm for universities and colleges ever since Duke first experimented with handing iPods to incoming students in 2004. Other schools hand over laptops. Some of us here at Switched were lucky if we got E-mail addresses when we went to school.

But ACU wants to stay ahead of the technological curve and has invested in creating several iPhone and iPod Touch-compatible applications for students including homework reminders, classroom surveys, campus navigators, and meal planners. The pilot program involving this year's incoming freshman will decide the future shape of the program, or if there even is one.

From ArsTechnica

Related links:

We all know by know that HDTV has thrown the entertainment, lighting and make-up industries for a loop, since the high-definition resolution of 720p-and-up TVs (along with bigger screens) reveals blemishes and wrinkles on stars' faces in ways that standard-res broadcasts do not. We were hoping to have a big snark-fest to dish about which stars looked great and which stars looked bad under the high-res glare of HDTV, but we were simultaneously pleased and disappointed to see that on last night's Oscar telecast, most stars passed looked just fine in 1080p. It seems as though the production, lighting, and make-up people have wised-up to the cruel lens of the HD camera, at least as far as people up on the Oscar stage are concerned. (Now, we're only referring to the onstage Oscar telecast itself -- the red carpet, on the other hand, is another matter.)

Sure, we could make some comments about how Katherine Heigl's blush looked a bit too heavy or how the sunglasses-induced-tanlines on the noses of Owen Wilson and Patrick Dempsey were distractingly apparent, but it would be too nitpicky. Yes, in HD, Cate Blanchett does have crows' feet when she frowns or smiles on the red carpet or in the audience, but her more or less expressionless face while up on stage betrayed no signs of aging.

Continue reading Oscars 2008: Stars' Faces On Their Best Behavior For HDTV

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Tom Samiljan

Apple Offers Free Recycling On iPods and iPhones -- Without Strings

Filed under: Computers, iPod, Green Tech, iPhone

Apple has been embroiled in a PR battle with Greenpeace over the past year or so. The computer and gadget manufacturer is trying to establish its "green" cred to keep its often eco-minded fans happy. Greenpeace, meanwhile, has been pushing for more, taking the company to task for a number of eco-shortcomings. Now, in a bid for getting greener, Apple is ramping up its recycling programs, offering free and no-strings-attached recycling of any iPod or iPhone.

Apple has been offering free recycling of its products through its stores for quite some time now, launched way back in 2006. However, the recycling was only free if you bought yourself a new gadget to replace the recycled one. Now, iPods and iPhones can be recycled for free without having to buy a new one, but if you want to recycle your old computer (regardless of its brand), you'll still need to upgrade or pay.

Seems Apple isn't quite willing to get into the wholesale beige box recycling business.

From textually.org

Related Links:
