We're still a little perplexed about this, but The HD Room has it on authority that the Blu-ray rendition of 'Mamma Mia!' will boast a Blu-ray first: Shareable video commentary. Trust us, we had the same reaction that you just did. According to the specs, the "My Mamma Mia! Commentary" will allow users to "record their own video commentary while watching the movie and share it with friends," ...

digg_url = 'http://digg.com/tech_news/End_Of_An_Era_JVC_finally_shuts_the_door_stops_making_VCR'; We were fully prepared to start harshing on VHS as a dead-end technology that never went anywhere during its time in retail (as a joke, of course), and out of nowhere, a bona fide tear slowly ran down our left cheek. Today, friends, is a day worth remembering. Today truly marks the end of an era, ...

Evidently as much as MSNBC wanted to go HD in time for the big election push, it just didn't get done. We'd like to think that the fact that MSNBC isn't presented in HD is the reasons why it's behind both CNN and Fox News in ratings -- which have both been HD for some time -- but it's probably the content. Either way though, in the spring MSNBC will finally make the big upgrade. But what's more ...

And so the Netflix partnerships roll on. Netflix just reached a deal to stream Internet movies and TV over a pair of Samsung Blu-ray players. The first Sammy players to go Netflix are the $400 BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 with "a range of home entertainment products" expected to follow suit. Good news for those of you who already own these players as the Netflix update is a free download through ...

Any Japanese consumer electronics show worth its salt will have plenty of cell phones and TVs. Since we've already covered some of the stranger new concept phones we saw while at this week's CEATEC convention in Tokyo, we're moving on to the televisions. Take a look at the following seven prototype TVs, and tell us which ones you like!

Sony's taken the crown in the race for thinnest LCD HDTV. At just 9.9mm thick the KDL-40ZX1 nearly halves the depth of Hitachi's former champ (likely throwing up in the bathroom right now) and comes within a whisper of Pioneer's ultra thin concept. Featuring a LED backlighting, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz MotionFlow tech, x.v.Color and BRAVIA Engine 2 image processing this is about as close ...

So, Nikon finally fessed up to its new D90 prosumer DSLR, which means all that's left for us is to do is to pick through the spec sheets, drool on the product shots and imagine ourselves taking the film industry by storm with that D90-shot indie flick we're plotting. INT. SUBURBAN HOME - DAY BLOGGER sits at his computer typing. He looks inspired, witty, unkempt. The camera's short depth of field ...

High gas prices and Internet downloads and bears oh my! Home video sales and rentals are remaining strong in the face of an increasingly weak economy and challenges from Internet movie downloading and streaming services. It seems that the lure of on-demand entertainment and new technologies (Blu-ray) is still a tantalizingly potent brew. DVD and Blu-ray sales are up 1.6% from the first half of ...

Back in May, TiVo's VP of product marketing got all of our hopes up that the next announcement involving it and Amazon would include HD Unbox content. As you can very clearly see, this is most certainly not the case. Instead, we have the immense pleasure of informing Internet-connected Tivo Series2, Series3 and TiVo HD owners that they can now buy wares from Amazon without leaving their couch. ...

As with quite a few things unveiled at CEDIA Expos, the Ovei is also aimed squarely at folks with wallets so fat they can hardly contain themselves. This home cinema pod made its most recent debut at the CEDIA UK show, where the creators explained that users could slip into the air-conditioned capsule and control their home theater and / or gaming experience via the built-in touchscreen. We are ...

Okay, so last year you got Dad an iPod. Since then, he's digitized his entire Jazz, Bebop, and/or Classic Rock (hey, we don't know when your Dad was born) collection and put it into iTunes. Unfortunately, he's still getting inferior sound quality from his standard-issue laptop or desktop speakers. But there is a solution – namely, a pair of stereo computer speakers with a subwoofer. We ...

Sony revealed a few cool home theater displays and components Thursday, revealing pricing and specs on some LCD displays, free content from YouTube and other online content direct to the TV set and a home-theater-in-a-box (HTiB) setup that features tiny but powerful speakers. All in all, a good day for tech watchers and home theater aficionados. The seven new Bravia LCD TVs introduced are all ...

You know what's crazy? Here's what's crazy: According to market research company The NPD Group, only 9 percent of HDTV owners said they planned on buying a Blu-ray player in the next six months. Which is only a tad higher than the general population, of which 6% said were considering a similar purchase. In fact, less than half of HDTV owners in the U.S. even know what Blu-ray disc is (if you're ...

It's a fact that Blu-ray provides higher definition, more clarity and greater color representation than DVD. But is there then a hierarchy among Blu-ray Disc players?
Leave it to Swiss firm Goldmund to stake a claim to the highest of the high-end in HD machines. With the introduction of the Eidos 20 BD, a Blu-ray Disc player originally slated for a debut later this year but moved up on the ...

Excited to see all the Academy Award winners you missed over the last year? Want to see them on your new Blu-Ray payer? Psyched to check out all the new releases in high-definition? Sure you are, so you hit up Netflix to add them to your queue and wait for them to arrive. The only problem? It seems ...
