Rather than opening your Palm Pre's Card View function to sort through all of your open apps, you can simply swipe back and forth between running apps. Go to the Launcher and select Screen & Lock. Under the heading 'Advanced Gestures,' slide the Switch Applications option from Off to On. Now, when you have several apps open, you can swipe left across the length of the gesture area to quickly flip to the last app you used, or swipe to the right to view other running apps.

Quickly Switch Apps on a Palm Pre originally appeared on Switched on Fri, 20 Nov 2009 06:36:00 EST.
Keep all of your photo, video, audio, and data files up-to-date between your laptop and desktop by using syncing software. If you have a Windows PC, SyncBack is a freeware backup utility that lets you merge or overwrite data between two sources. Mac users who are comfortable using the Terminal may enjoy the free rsync utility, but the rest of us will prefer ChronoSync, a $40 app that lets you easily and seamlessly backup, or sync between two computers. (It even allows you to sync between a Mac and a PC.)

Keep Two Computers Synced originally appeared on Switched on Thu, 19 Nov 2009 06:30:00 EST. Download YouTube, and similarly Flash-based, videos for use on your iPod. Using Firefox, install the free VideoDownloader extension. Then download and install the free Perian codec for Quicktime from Perian.org. Videos ending in .flv will download to your desktop, where you can then open and export them to your iPod using Quicktime.

Download YouTube Videos to Your iPod originally appeared on Switched on Wed, 18 Nov 2009 06:31:00 EST. Believe it or not, you can take the pain-in-the-ass out of PDFs. Though most PDFs can't be edited, there is one freebie workaround if you're in a pinch. Go to pdftoword.com, upload your PDF, and enter the format to which you'd like it converted. Within an hour or two, you'll get an e-mail containing a regular old Word or RTF file that you can fully edit. If you're in a hurry, the site offers a pro software version that lets you do PDF conversion on your own computer.

Turn Pesky PDFs Into Word Docs originally appeared on Switched on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 06:29:00 EST.
Brothers Wall of Sound iPod Speaker (Style-o-Phile, Cost No Object)

We're still struggling to invent the proper adjective to describe this monster of rockin' (would insanely awesome be insanesome or awesane?) but don't let our failings hinder your appreciation. The WOS, or Wall of Sound, is an achievement all of humanity can come together around and celebrate like the monolith from 2001, as their eardrums melt away: the world's most powerful iPod speaker, capable of throwing out 95 decibels of sonic punishment (on par with a nearby chain saw) from its 28 elements. While it represents the highest form of a stunt product, the first generation series completely sold out at a $4,500 price tag, so get in line now to get your hands on the gen 2. And invest in a hand truck -- this beast already weighs 225 pounds, so we can only imagine what the next version will be.

Gift Guide: Brothers Wall of Sound iPod Speaker originally appeared on Switched on Sat, 14 Nov 2009 18:30:00 EST.

Yamaha AvantGrand N3 (Creative, Cost No Object)

While we're tempted to think of Yamaha's latest invention as sort of the grandson of the keytar, that '80s rock staple that seemed the pinnacle of ebony and ivory awesomeness, in reality it's a whole new species. From afar the N3 looks like an especially mini baby grand, until you get up close and look under the hood, where suddenly you realize this beaut is a hybrid. Intended as a substitute for those who have neither the space (9.5 feet) or the cash (oh, about $150,000) for a concert grand piano, the N3 convincingly replicates the most important aspects of an acoustic model: the key and hammer movements as well as the pedals are the same as those in a regular piano, but the sound is all electronic and sampled from a top-of-the-line concert grand. And boy, is there sound, from the four subwoofers tucked into to the bottom panel to the four speakers up top facing the soundboard (with a dedicated amp for each). It sounds weird to be saying this about a $20,000 object, but at less than half the size of a grand and a fraction of the price, it's an incredible bargain.

Gift Guide: Yamaha AvantGrand N3 Piano originally appeared on Switched on Sat, 14 Nov 2009 16:29:00 EST.
Earn the gratitude of pine forests and beleaguered postal carriers the world over by signing up to receive electronic catalogs instead of paper ones. CatalogChoice.org is a godsend in that you can quickly and easily sign up. When you enter the customer data from the address labels of catalogs you receive, you'll get the option of either signing up for an iCatalog or just canceling delivery altogether. Granted, it takes several weeks to kick in, and some jerky retailers simply won't budge. But if you're the type who gets deluged with catalogs every season, you'll quickly notice a difference.

Swap Dead-Tree Catalogs for iCatalogs originally appeared on Switched on Fri, 13 Nov 2009 06:30:00 EST. Other than jailbreaking it or using e-mail, the iPhone offers no built-in way to accept non-media files, even ones that it's able to display (like PDFs and Office files, among others). There are a few iPhone apps, however, that help. AirSharing is a nifty app that lets you wirelessly mount your iPhone on your computer (Mac, PC, or Linux) like a network drive. From there, you simply drag and drop files from a shared Public folder -- either from the PC to your iPhone, or vice versa. You can then view the files on the go, or tote them to another computer to upload them without having to install software.

Load Your iPhone With Your Favorite Files originally appeared on Switched on Thu, 12 Nov 2009 06:40:00 EST. If your plasma HDTV has burn-in -- a permanent image on the screen that won't fade -- all is not lost. Unplug your video source, turn on the TV so that "snow" (or fuzz) appears, leave it on for 15 minutes, and then plug in your video source to see if the burn-in is fixed. If your screen automatically goes black (won't show snow), plug your plasma into your PC. There, go to JScreenFix.com for a program that can help.

Fix That Burned-In Image on Your Plasma TV originally appeared on Switched on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 06:35:00 EST.
McIntosh MXA60 60th Anniversary Integrated Audio System (Media Hound, Cost No Object)

If you must have top-shelf, top-notch, wallet-draining audio -- which is the only reason you'd be perusing a McIntosh music system in the first place -- then at least do Santa (and the mailman) a favor and lug home the MXA60 yourself: even though it's a bookshelf system, it weighs a husky 64 pounds. From the company synonymous with picky sonic perfection, and vacuum-tube preamps, the MXA60 is an integrated mini-stereo par excellence: 75-watt-per-channel audiophile-quality vacuum-tube amp, CD/SACD/MP3 player, radio tuner and a pair of beefy loudspeakers that'll rock your socks off (as well as line level outs and ins). Of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't say it also looks pretty freakin' cool, but then for $7500 it better.

Gift Guide: McIntosh MXA60 Audio System originally appeared on Switched on Tue, 10 Nov 2009 12:33:00 EST.

All is not necessarily lost if your cell phone ends up in the drink. If your phone gets doused, do the following as quickly as possible:

First off, do not try to turn on the phone if it's already off, or if it's acting funky.

Pop out the battery.

Dry off the outside as much as possible. Some sources recommend not shaking the phone, as that can actually cause water to travel inside the phone. However, we've heard the opposite, as well. (But don't do it too violently as you don't want to chuck it.) Don't bother trying to disassemble the phone to sponge out any water, as you'd just risk causing further damaging.

Put both your phone and the battery in a bowl of dried rice, which, like the rice in salt shakers at restaurants, will slowly draw out the moisture and humidity. You'll have to leave it there for a day or two before testing it. Alternatively, you can put the phone near a source of heat (e.g., on a shelf above or near a heater), and let it sit overnight.

Cross your fingers, put the battery back in, and test your luck.

If you're the type to spawn tons of new tabs or windows in a browser rather than use the previous/next page buttons, there's a quick way to toggle through them using keyboard commands.

To toggle between several open Web browser windows:
Command (which is the Apple key) + ` (the one just below the Esc button)

To toggle between several open tabs in a Web browser's window:
Control + Tab

Toggle Between Windows or Tabs on a Mac originally appeared on Switched on Mon, 09 Nov 2009 06:45:00 EST.

Leica M9 Digital Rangefinder Camera (Gadget Head, Cost No Object)

The Leica brand has represented the ne plus ultra of photographic excellence for nearly a century, and continues to burnish its impeccable rep with its new M9 ($7,000). As beautiful a piece of gadgetry as any we've come across, the M9 is somewhat of an oddity in the digital realm: it's a rangefinder camera (meaning you don't see through the lens to focus), is essentially all manually controlled (including focus) and is the smallest camera around to pack a full 35mm CCD image sensor. That giant sensor also explains why the M9 can capture positively massive (and gorgeous) 18.5-megapixel images -- which, at about 36-megabytes (MBs) a snap, also means you might want to look into a new hard drive before you get snap happy. Nicely, the M9 can also accommodate any existing M-series lenses dating back to 1950s, a further enticement for any film Leica enthusiasts who are still sitting on the digital bench. Any devout shutterbug would kill or die to have one (and considering its $7,000 price tag, it'll surely cross some minds), though casual shooters who aren't comfortable messing with ISO, aperture and shutterspeed settings should likely opt for a DSLR with more automatic controls.
Filed under: Cameras, Digital Camera, Holiday Gift Guide

Gift Guide: Leica M9 Digital Rangefinder Camera originally appeared on Switched on Fri, 06 Nov 2009 16:11:00 EST.

If you're the road-warrior type, or a student or freelancer who spends a lot of time at the local library or Starbucks, it's essential to lock down your laptop with a strong password. All it takes is a second for a thief to jack your laptop, gain access to your e-mail, photos, and contacts, and potentially even find the login info to all the sites that house your sensitive personal info.

At a minimum, you should have a non-guessable password -- one with a combination of words and numbers -- for logging in to your laptop. Disable auto-login for all accounts, and require a password to wake your laptop from sleep or standby. If you're on a Windows machine, go to Start/Control Panel/Power Options and make sure to check the box for "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby." For a Mac, go to System Preferences/Security and check the box beside "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver." Then, get in the habit of closing the lid of your laptop every time you physically leave it, even if you think it will just be for a few seconds. That's time aplenty to have your stuff swiped.

Stymie Thieves by Password-Protecting Your Laptop originally appeared on Switched on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 06:30:00 EST.
Grado iGi Earphones (Media Hound, Under $100)

To the audio obsessives who consider the quality of their sound gear a way of life, the mere mention of the name Grado elicits the kind of response usually reserved for Santa or, well, Steve Jobs . Since most Grado headphones are priced in the relative stratosphere, its new iGi model ($89) is a welcome entry-level sampler for the iPod generation. As with all in-ear models, they offer the side benefit of blocking out virtually all outside noise mostly because they're inserted deep into your ear canal -- like you-better-pay-for-dinner-and-a-movie-first type of intimacy. The iGi's don't compare with some of Grado's more legendary over-the-ear models, but you'd be hard-pressed to find better quality sound from such a reliable brand at anywhere near the cost.
Filed under: Audio/Video, iPod, iPhone, Portable Audio, Holiday Gift Guide

Gift Guide: Grado iGi Earphones originally appeared on Switched on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 18:19:00 EST. If you've suffered a hard drive meltdown, or simply like a friend's photos and want them for yourself, you can either spend the rest of your life downloading them one at a time, or make use of the many Flickr software hacks out there. Two free versions that work particularly well are Flickrdown for Windows and Photo Grabbr for Mac; both let you easily locate photo sets by user name, and then download the ones you like.

Download Entire Flickr Sets at Once originally appeared on Switched on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 06:31:00 EST.
Joby Gorillamobile for iPhone (Media Hound, Under $50)

Joby first earned fans several years ago when it essentially invented its own market: low-cost, flexible but durable mini tripods for cameras. And Joby's done it again by extending into the iPhone accessory market with the $40 Gorillamobile. Put any iPhone 3G or 3GS (sorry first genners) into the included soft case and then snap it into the tripod and you're good to go -- use it to keep your iPhone within easy viewing when you're on a bike, or while you're driving (for hands-free calling and GPS functions only!), or on a plane (to watch movies), or in the kitchen, or wherever else you are that requires you to go handsfree. Nicely, it also comes with a standard 1/4-inch adapter for attaching a camera as well. Oh, and just to be clear, no gorillas were harmed in the manufacture of this product.
Filed under: Audio/Video, Cell Phones, iPhone, Holiday Gift Guide

Gift Guide: Joby Gorillamobile for iPhone originally appeared on Switched on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 18:34:00 EST.

JVC HD Everio GZ-HM400 (Creative, Under $1,000)

If you aspire for your homemade movies to be more 'American Beauty' than America's Funniest, you'll need to forgo the raft of pocket-sized but underpowered HD camcorders and opt for a higher-end model. Which is where's JVC's newest Everio, the GZ-HM400 HD camcorder steps in. Able to record both crisp 1080 at 60fps HD video, as well 600fps slow-mo shots (you know for when your hero jumps from an exploding helicopter, or, uh, you record a friend sneezing), the HM400 has as built-in 32-gigabyte (GB) hard drive for recording up to 14 hours of AVCHD video, and nicely also an SD slot should you fill up your rig too soon. While we continue to shy away from counting on a camcorder for still shots, the HM400 does take 10 megapixel pictures, or 5.3 megapixels images in the midst of shooting video should you need the option. And taking things to a more prosumer level, an accessory shoe and audio in/out jacks allow for attaching mics and monitoring audio levels on the fly. If a budding filmmaker in your life is in the market for high-end HD, but can't afford to go pro, this camcorder will do just fine.
Filed under: Audio/Video, Cameras, Camcorders, Holiday Gift Guide

Gift Guide: JVC HD Everio GZ-HM400 Camcorder originally appeared on Switched on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 18:25:00 EST. While seemingly every other company out there is scrambling to put out their latest low-power, low-feature, low-cost netbook, Sony opted instead to pull out all the stops for its newest Vaio X, a full-featured sub-notebook that also happens to be insanely, runway model tiny, thin and light. Like not much thicker than an iPhone (.55 inches to be exact) and just 1.6 pounds (we eat heavier sandwiches than that). And yet, somehow Sony still crammed it full of the essentials: an 11.1-inch LCD, with two USB ports, Ethernet, VGA, SD slot and built-in Verizon mobile wireless, as well as 2-gigabytes (GB) of RAM, and up to 128 GB SSD hard drive and running Windows 7 to boot. These are all premium specs, and not bad for a $1,300 price tag, especially considering it comes with an external long-life battery that lasts about 14 hours, and has a durable carbon-fiber case and scratch-resistant screen. So it's tough but tiny, built for the road but also pretty sexy -- consider it the biker chick of sub-notebooks.
Filed under: Computers, Laptops, Holiday Gift Guide

Gift Guide: Sony Vaio X originally appeared on Switched on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 18:12:00 EST.
Other than adding as much RAM as possible, a quick, relatively cheap way to gain noticeably better performance from your aging PC is to upgrade the hard drive to a faster model. The faster a hard drive spins (measured in revolutions per minute or rpm), the more quickly it can access data and pass it back and forth to the processor. For desktop computers, you should get at least a 7,200 rpm drive, although 10,000 rpm is ideal. For laptops, 5,400 rpm (standard on new machines) should do the trick, but 7,200 rpm is recommended. As always, before buying, check to make sure your computer can handle the specs of whatever drive you select.

Speedy Hard Drive = Speedier PC originally appeared on Switched on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 06:35:00 EST.
Rather than sell or recycle your old cell phone (or throw away, God forbid!), consider donating it to one of the many charitable organizations that put them to good use. Hit charityguide.org for a list and description of places that accept used cell phones. And as always, make sure to delete all personal information from your phone before putting it in the mail (including the memory card). Usually, you can simply go to Settings/Security and choose to restore your phone to factory settings. If not, Google for instructions.

Donate Old Cell Phones to Help Others originally appeared on Switched on Mon, 02 Nov 2009 07:31:00 EST.
If you need the content of a Web page but can't be bothered to cut and paste text, or want to memorialize your amazing word stack on Bananagrams, use your iPhone's built-in ability to take screenshots. Hold down the Home button, and then press and release the Sleep button (on top). Once you hear the familiar shutter sound effect, you'll be able to access your new snaps in your Photos collection. It's especially useful for taking self-portraits, a notoriously difficult task since it require that you hit a touchscreen button without seeing the screen. Just go to the Camera app, and then repeat the above steps. (The downside is that your shot will, of course, include the image of the shutter button bar, too).

Take iPhone Screenshots originally appeared on Switched on Fri, 30 Oct 2009 06:35:00 EST. When requiring a stable camera for tricky subjects, the resourceful (or broke) photographer needs no more than an eye-hook bolt, a nut, and a simple piece of string to construct a makeshift monopod. All you'll need is a 1/4-20 eye hook, a 1/4-20 nut, and a length of string that is about your height. First, screw the nut halfway up the bolt, tie or loop the string to the eye hook, and then screw the bolt into the bottom of your camera. (Almost all cameras use the same size bolt and thread type.) Gently tighten the nut, only to make sure the bolt doesn't back out. Drop the other end of the string to the floor so that it is hanging from the camera. Next, frame your shot, step on the string so that it is taught (and you're comfortable standing), and simply maintain tension. That's it! It seems hokey, but you'll be able to keep a camera far more stable than you would if you were to simply brace it against your body.
If you aren't willing to donate old electronics to a non-profit organization, and don't feel like going through the hassle of haggling with buyers on eBay, try one of these services:

Gazelle.com (formerly Second Rotation) lets you input the condition of and details about your electronics. Then, based on current auction market prices, it makes you an offer. If you accept, administrators will send you a box, confirm receipt of the package, and then finalize the offer; if you decline, they'll send your stuff back for free.

Best Buy's trade-in program is two-fold. You can exchange products purchased at Best Buy for cash or credit. (After you've input details online, the site will give you an offer, which you can print out and bring to a local store.) Alternatively, if you purchased your gadget at another store, you can get an estimate, print out the label, toss the package in the mail, and receive your gift card or check within two weeks.

If you've spent any length of time with a Windows machine, you've heard the term "registry" bandied about -- usually accompanied with curse words. The registry is often the starting point of conflicts that bollock up your PC, so cleaning it out is something that will make your world a much happier place. Now, messing with the registry can utterly and permanently destroy your PC, so you are warned not to fiddle haphazardly. Before trying anything, make a full backup of your Registry, and only delete listings you are 100-percent sure are no longer used or outdated. And definitely use a cleaning program rather than search-and-destroying your way through. For a useful guide and reviews of cleaner applications, hit this article.

A Quick Cure for Ailing Windows PCs originally appeared on Switched on Tue, 27 Oct 2009 06:45:00 EST. Instantly jump to the top of almost any scrollable iPhone app by tapping the status bar at the top of the screen (where the clock is). It's especially handy for when you scroll 195 messages deep into your e-mail inbox and want to go to your newest message again. It works in virtually every Apple-branded app (and some third-party ones, as well), and works in contacts, Safari Web pages, and within e-mails, themselves.

Ultimate iPhone Keyboard Shortcut originally appeared on Switched on Mon, 26 Oct 2009 06:41:00 EST.
At some time or another, we've all scratched the life out of a DVD or CD. If the old standby repairs don't work (gently rubbing them with a soft cloth and mild abrasive like toothpaste or Brasso), it's worth trying a rubdown with Rain-X. Instead of buffing out those fine pits and scratches, the Rain-X apparently fills them, making discs readable again. If you do find success, be sure to make a backup copy of your media ASAP.

Last-Ditch Prescription for Scratched Discs originally appeared on Switched on Fri, 23 Oct 2009 06:30:00 EST.
As stable as Macs tend to be, they still have their hiccups. There's one bit of housecleaning you should do before and after you install any system software, and whenever your Mac starts acting funky (programs stall, or crash, or lock up): "repair permissions." First, quit out of all applications, go to Applications/Utilities, and then start up Disk Utility. In the left panel, select your system hard drive, and then, on the bottom of the window, click "repair permissions." Depending on the speed of your Mac, and how long it's been since you last performed the operation, it could take 15 minutes or so. Power users may want to check out the free utility Onyx, which lets you repair permissions as well as perform a host of other fun maintenance jobs.

Keep Your Mac Humming originally appeared on Switched on Fri, 23 Oct 2009 06:28:00 EST.
As iPhone users know, you're never too far away from a Starbucks and its sweet, free (to iPhone users) Wi-Fi when you need to get your data on. The rest of us can jump online for virtually free as well. Sign up for a free Starbucks Rewards card, put at least $5 on it, and you'll get 2 hours of free Wi-Fi every day, so long as you use your card for a transaction (from loading up more money to buying a small coffee) at least once every 30 days. If you miss the 30-day window or fall below a $5 balance, you can load up again at the counter and be back online by the time you get back to your seat.

How to Fill Up on Starbucks Wi-Fi (Even If You Don't Have an iPhone) originally appeared on Switched on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 06:24:00 EST. For older, click-wheel versions: Toggle the Hold switch from on to off, then press and hold the Menu and Center buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
If you have more than one computer or a Wi-Fi phone at home, but no Wi-Fi router, you can still share your Internet connection wirelessly from the PC that's hooked to your modem.
Rather than throwing away that old, dusty hard drive gathering dust in the back of a drawer, put it to work as a quick and easy backup storage unit. In lieu of dedicated external hard drives, companies like Brando and Newertech offer cheap adapter cables and hard drive docking stations for USB or Firewire, allowing you to plug in an SATA drive and instantly use it like a regular old external hard drive.

Give Retired Hard Drives a Job originally appeared on Switched on Fri, 16 Oct 2009 08:29:00 EST.
If your home Wi-Fi network sometimes seems to drag at a snails pace, check if all the PCs on your network have the same speed wireless cards (Wi-Fi or 802.11 comes in three main speeds: in order of slower to faster, b, g and n). It turns out that Wi-Fi routers run only as fast as the slowest device on the network. So even if you have a new "n" router, a new desktop PC with a speedy 802.11n wireless card, and an old laptop with an 802.11b card, the router will only transfer data at the "b" speeds when both are connected at the same time. So if any of your machines are stuck with old 802.11b cards, the only option is to upgrade them with new internal or USB wireless cards, or to make sure to turn off your slower devices when you feel the need for speed.

Unshackle Your Wi-Fi originally appeared on Switched on Thu, 15 Oct 2009 07:32:00 EST. One of the curses of HD DVRs is that, when recording HD video, they fill up terribly quickly. But, depending on your cable or satellite provider, and the model of box you have (check with your provider), you can quickly and cheaply upgrade your capacity. First, get hold of a completely empty SATA USB hard drive. Unplug the power cord of your set-top box, plug in the drive (the bigger the better), turn on the set-top box, and follow the onscreen directions to wipe and format your drive. Unfortunately, you won't be able to view your recordings on other DVRs or PCs, but you will be able to record vast amounts of programming.

Supercharge Your DVR's Hard Drive originally appeared on Switched on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 08:28:00 EST. It used to be that cell phones were safe from the clutches of telemarketers, but sadly that is the case no longer. The good news is that you can submit your cell phone number to the national Do Not Call Registry, even if you no longer have a landline phone. Hit donotcall.gov and within 31 days you should be free from marketing call lists for good. If not, report the offending caller on the same site. If you're of the lawsuit-happy, litigious type, start collecting evidence and take 'em to court. At $500 a call, it's not a bad hobby.

Immunize Your Cell Phone From Telemarketers originally appeared on Switched on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 13:31:00 EST. If you use huge media files for audio, video, and photo-editing apps, then you've experienced the annoyance of having your PC slow to a crawl whenever you're performing processor-intensive tasks. The best workaround is to store those huge files on a speedy, secondary hard drive, whether internal or external. Doing so preemptively clears up the bottleneck that occurs when your main hard drive has to search through data like a maniac while also handling all the processing, and should result in vastly improved speeds.

Save Your PC From Choking originally appeared on Switched on Fri, 09 Oct 2009 16:14:00 EST. Perhaps it should come as no surprise that Rob Zombie--rock star, screenwriter, film director, gore-fetishist--has little free time for messing around with all the electronic goodies the rest of us take for granted. But we get it. After all, his latest film, a remake of the classic slasher flick 'Halloween II,' only began filming in late February and yet barely six months later is already in theaters. Clearly he's a busy guy. Still, after a recent conversation with Mr. Zombie, we were taken aback at how vehemently anti-technology he is. Seriously, this guy has some major-league beef with gadgets and the people who love them. Check out the video to experience his alienation, and hold tight as you get torn a new one.
Filed under: Editor's Picks, Interviews, Celebrities, Switched Video

Rob Zombie Hates Your Cell Phone originally appeared on Switched on Thu, 03 Sep 2009 13:02:00 EST.
That annoying, unblinking colored dot on your LCD monitor is a stuck pixel, essentially a door that's jammed open. If you're feeling bold, take a piece of cloth, place it over the offending dot for padding, and use a pen point or finger tip to gently massage the pixel open, pushing carefully so as not to break the glass. If you're too chicken to do it yourself, you can always hit up JScreenFix.com for a program that can help.

For more daily tech tips, click here.

Dots on Your LCD TV?
