Earlier this year, we brought you the first part of a seminal study into the celebrity blogging phenomenon. Best Celebrity Blogs compiled the best examples we found of famous people using their status to reach out to fans and share a piece of their world, whether for a good cause or maybe just to look into the online mirror and tell us who is the fairest of them all. This week, we happily bring you the Worst Celebrity Blogs out there in the teeming blogosphere. Some of these sites take the prize for incoherence, while others just disappoint, and still others make you consider violence (despite your normally outgoing disposition). Regardless of the reason, these blogs are the worst we have to offer...



Roseanne Barr

We have some vague recollection of Roseanne confessing that she has multiple personalities on her long-buried talk show a number of years back. We think she was on to something, as this blog could be the key evidence to any plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Raging posts supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential candidacy (with friends like this...) are interspersed with quotables about some Goddess "lifting the veil" (Huh? is right.) and a random nude painting she refers to as "Fat Butt." That being the case, we're willing to bet that two of her personalities are Madam Mix-A-Lot and Rush Limbaugh's liberal doppelganger.

Ah, narcissism. It could be said that blogging is all about people indulging themselves in...themselves. Victoria Beckham, former Spice Girl and wife of LA Galaxy soccer star David Beckham, reinforces such a notion with a blog that features endless photos of herself in Paris, on Ugly Betty, at Fashion Week, on magazine covers, going on ad nauseum. Eschewing the idea that a blog might discuss, opine, inform or share the deeply personal, Beckham's blog takes the cake for most vanity ("This is how you pose for pictures," she tell us.). If you want a fun activity, though, just go through the pictures and see how many you count before there is an image of someone other than Posh Spice.

The man who brought you The Dude in The Big Lebowski maintains a blog that conceptually seems kind of cool. Various sketches of things like surfing penguins and a doodle of Bridges succumbing to a dental chair make up the site. Unfortunately, his Dudeness cops out on us by linking these drawings to news sites, trailers and Amazon.com pages instead of giving us more personal, inventive substance with his style. Take note out there: If you tantalize us with an artsy, original blog façade, you should link to more of yourself, not less. Where were you when we needed you, Jeff?

Englander Frank Jones claims that his wife, Sadie, has been sending him text messages from the afterlife, leaving no return number behind. Turns out the family buried Sadie with her prized cell phone, and now Jones believes his wife's spirit has a hankering to reach out and touch someone. Here's hoping Oda Mae finds a new line of work...

The one with the $22,000 downloads of 'Friends' episodes....

Whoever said Friends don't cost a thing? A man from the United Kingdom received a bill for £11,000 (about $22,000) after his wife downloaded four episodes of the popular TV show from his cell phone. Apparently, she began downloading shortly before the man left for business in Germany, where roaming charges made the bill skyrocket as the downloads continued. The good news is that one of the episodes the couple downloaded was the one where - eh, never mind.

The one in which a grandmother fights off a Taser attack with her cell phone....

It sure makes sense that they call this great country of ours the Home of the Brave, considering what a grandmother from Speake, Alabama went through this past February. It appears that an intruder tried to force his way into the elderly woman's home, and, according to police, even tried to taser her in the process. The astounding part of the story is that she claims that she was tasered, but managed to use the cell phone she was carrying to fight him off. The reports are sketchy as to how the woman shrugged off a possible taser jolt and sent the criminal packing with nothing more than a mobile handset, but we can say that we see a WWE appearance in her near future for sure.

The one with the bank robber who couldn't be bothered to get off the phone...

Here's one for the multi-tasker in all of us: A bank in Alabama was recently held up by a robber who didn't find it necessary to get off of the phone while committing the crime. Surveillance footage shows the man pointing a firearm at a teller and demanding money, all while conducting a conversation on his cell phone. All we want to know is, why didn't Pacino think of this one in 'Heat?'

No joke: A Canadian man was hit with an $85,000 cell phone bill after buying a new phone and what he thought was a $10 unlimited data plan. While Piotr Staniaszek imagined that tethering the phone to his laptop and downloading to his hearts delight was kosher, wireless carrier Bell Mobility had other ideas. The service provider informed the oil worker that using the phone as a modem was not covered under his plan, and it proceeded to charge him on a per-kilobyte basis. As a token of "goodwill," the company eventually lowered the bill to only $3,243. Something tells us Staniaszek wasn't impressed by the evil corporate discount...

We next ran into Carly Parker, an up-and-coming star in the adult film world who took a break from signing fan memorabilia to speak with us. She got started in the industry two years after enrolling at Florida State University in 2002, turning to adult entertainment in 2004. On top of her busy schedule, she still managed to graduate from school in 2006. She has been featured in films such as 'Tera Goes Solo' and 'Ferocious!'


What gadgets do you always bring with you to the set for downtime?

I'm really not very technological, I guess is the right word. My cell phone, I'm addicted to my cell phone. That's pretty much the main. Four cameras and two iPods I lost last year. I lose everything. So, I keep it to a minimum now.

My cellphone!


Who is the last person you sent a text message to and what was it about?

The last person I sent a text message to was to my friend Evan and I texted him, saying, "I tried to call you." He had called me, but I had to hang up. I called him back, he didn't pick up, so I texted him.


What site or service do you use pretty much every time you go online?

My Facebook [site] is a big one. Yeah, I love my Facebook. It's definitely one of the biggest.


Name one thing you wish your iPod, laptop or cell phone did that it doesn't do now.

I wish that it was just easier to use, like more user friendly. I wish that I could anything, not my cell phone, and make them easier to understand. For people that are not technologically inclined, like myself... like a lot of my friends don't use the gadgets because they're too confusing. Just to make them not so scary.


Is there a gadget that is the easiest to use? Hardest?

My cellphone [is the easiest]. The hardest would be my computer. I'm having problems with... what's it called? Spyware! I'm having problems with Spyware.


What kind of computer do you have?

A Sony Vaio.


You're stranded on a desert island and you can only bring one gadget. What do you bring?

My cell phone! That's going to be my answer to everything. I'm addicted to my phone. I sleep with it under my pillow. I love to talk and text. I love it.


What's the most played song or artist on your iPod?

Mariah Carey. I don't have a iPod now because I lost it. But I have satellite radio in my car.


Which company do you use for satellite service?

I have Sirius, which I love. Mercedes picked it for me.


Blackberry, Sidekick or Trio?

I honestly don't know. I'd say not the Sidekick because that bullet thing is annoying as f$#%. I don't have one, but some of my friends do, and I was trying to answer one earlier. It was so annoying! So one of the other two.


Are you going to get an iPhone?

Yes, I am going to get one. I was waiting for the second generation. The first generations are never good, so I was waiting for the second generation.


Did you ever play video games?

I play video games, but I've had a lot of relationships broken up over video games.


What is the game that broke up the most relationships in your life?

I would say 'Halo' and 'Guitar Hero'... and 'Madden'. We had a big problem with that. It's wasn't as bad as the other two. I've had three boyfriends who we broke up with over videogames (sic). I had one boyfriend who was addicted to 'Halo' and we broke up over that. One over 'Guitar Hero' very recently. And one, well we didn't break up, but there were a lot of fights over 'Madden'.


Were your boyfriends all in the industry?

Oh no, I date civilians. Only dorks. I like dorks.


If you were an inventor, what gadget or technology would you invent?

I would say something that could organize and deal with everything. Like, you know how they have those things that do your receipts now and stuff? Well, something like that in Japan, something that does your finance, your entertainment, your communication.

Tera Wray is a contract actress for Pleasure Productions who grew up in Kentucky. What gadgets do you always bring with you to the set?

My PSP never leaves me. Of course, I have my two cell phones. I have a Palm Trio 680 and an AT&T 8525 PC Phone. It's a lot.


Why the Trio?

I've had a Trio for probably five years now. I love the touch screen. I can't even use a regular cell phone now because I'm like "uh, uh, [jabbing the air], I can't make it work right." I like all the capabilities it has. I like all the chat rooms as far as text messaging goes. I love being able to get on the internet and check my E-mail. My E-mail in my business is very, very important. I get so many of them a day, and being able to get it on my phone like that just makes it so much easier.


Are you planning on getting an iPhone?

My brother actually works for AT&T. At first, I wanted one. I wanted to be one of the first persons (sic) to have it. I was actually somewhere else in the country for a store signing, so I couldn't actually go stand in line with the rest of the fools out there. But I'm kind of glad I didn't now because my fingernails get in my way. And it's not exactly a fingernail-responsive touch pad like the 8525 or the Trio is. You have to actually use your fingertip. It was so hard for me to actually type. It's just not what I was used to. So I'm happier with the two phones that I have.


Who was the last person you sent a text message to and what was it about?

It was to Wayne Static and I was asking him when I get to put his [blank] in my [blank].


What site or service do you go pretty much every time you get online?

Well, I go to AOL. That's my homepage, AOL and Google Search. So it's pretty cool. I go to Hotmail, because I have my email there. And I do my AOL Instant Messenger, which you can find me at Tera Wray.


Name one thing you wish your iPod/cell phone/laptop could do that it doesn't do now.

Well, my laptop right now doesn't have a camera. I've been looking for more. But I wish more that I didn't have to type. I know they have voice recognition units too, but my accent just doesn't work right for those sometimes. I mean, they totally misspell everything! I would like a better voice recognition program for my laptop.


What kind of laptop do you have?

What do I have right now? I go through so many. I was a computer tech for an insurance company for three years, so I have like three home computers, three laptops. So one that I'm carrying around right now is a Compaq, but I don't even remember what f@#$% brand, what's in it.


Do you remember what voice recognition software you have?

No, I don't. I got all that stuff so long ago. I just don't even care anymore. I just care about f#@$%*. But I still love technology.


Who is the best you've ever had in bed? Why?

Wayne Static is the best I've ever had because his c&*# is so big and he's a rock star.


You're stranded on a desert island: What gadget do you bring with you?

I would bring my PSP with mebecause I'm a big videogame freak. And you can also watch movies on it and listen to music, which I can't live without.


And your favorite game?

Well, all the 'Tony Hawks' are always good. And all the 'GTA's are always good, too. 'Grand Theft Auto,' for all those people who don't know.


What's the longest time you've ever spent playing a video game in one sitting, and what was it?

Probably for like three days straight! It was probably 'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City,' when it first came out. It totally changed games, pretty much.

That would be Static-X and it would be every single song they have.


Mac or PC?

Both, do I have to pick one? I'm more familiar with the PC, I know more about it, but I've been playing with Macs lately. So, I like them both. It's so hard.


If you were an inventor, what gadget or piece of technology would you invent?

I would invent something... Oh yeah, this is one thing I've always wanted. I was going to say something sexual, but this is something I've really, really want. I want to be able to think of a place I want to be, and just be there. You know, after you're partying all night, you're f#%^$ up and you're ready to get home, just get laid or just lay down. Who cares about sex when you're so tired? I mean, I always care, but ... I want to be able to put this little helmet on and think, "I want to be in my bed right now," and be there. That would be great.

I really like the iPhone, but I haven't quite decided. Maybe "can't wait to get my hands on it" is the right phrase, but I'm definitely intrigued by it. You can do everything on it. It's nice looking and sleek, but it's so big! I would like it to be smaller.


If you were an inventor what gadget or technology would you invent?

I guess a smaller iPhone.

Maybe Tool, a lot of rock. I love rock music. But I'll pretty much listen to anything. There are probably like ten different artists. I listen to different genres and such.

I do play video games. I've been known to play 'World of Warcraft'.

But this new one I got, it actually only dropped once and now it won't burn CDs anymore. So that annoyed me. And my iPhone. I love it to death. But the touchscreen, the keyboard, is a major pain because I used to have a RAZR and I got so good I could feel the five when I was driving. I'd be driving down the road in my SL and would be able to feel out the buttons without looking at it. Now it's a major pain in my rear end when I have to text in the car.

Earlier this year in Las Vegas, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was forced to share the stage with another major exhibition of consumer products, bigwigs and dealmakers. At the Sands Expo convention center, the annual Adult Video News (AVN) Adult Entertainment Expo -- a trade show in its tenth year showcasing adult talent and exhibitors -- was also in full swing. Since the event attracts over 30,000 international buyers and fans of adult entertainment, it seemed like the perfect place for at least some of the Switched team to interview the top female stars in adult entertainment about -- what else -- the role of gadgets, gizmos and technology in their busy off-set lives.

Imagine a time when computer screens will be flexible, when you can roll them up like a newspaper. Think of when these screens have wi-fi connections, displaying and updating news stories, stock prices, weather conditions - even displaying a map of where you are at any given time. Dream about color changing and pattern rearranging clothing made out of this lithe material. The technology is here; these applications are around the corner.

LG. Philips is one of several companies to develop the technology, and will show off the latest in flexible screens, or e-paper, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week in Las Vegas. The South Korea-based firm's A4 e-paper sheet will measure 14.3 inches diagonally and be 300 micrometers thick (about 6 times the thickness of a human hair!). It displays at 1280 x 800 pixels (little dots), has a 180 degree viewing angle and can present a maximum of 4,096 colors. Importantly, it is energy efficient and only expends power when changing images.

Philips has utilized technology from E Ink, a company located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to produce their flexible screen. The technology works by sending positive or negative electronic charges through a thin plastic sheet in which thousands of black and white pixels are set. Depending on the charge emitted, a black or white pixel will rise to the surface of the plastic. Pattern a gazillion infinitesimal positive or negative charges on your "paper," and presto! You've got letters, words and images.

Other companies, rather than make pinprick patterns in plastic, use unique dot matrix printers to print circuitry onto a polyester surface. Still others are developing the technology through "organic electronics," in which electronic parts are constructed from plastic instead of the traditional, inflexible silicon and metal.

Combining with wi-fi technology, these developments mean the consumer might one day have just a single screen for all of his or her needs, whether every textbook, the newspaper or a video should be desired. While these applications may take some time to produce, one thing is certain: Everywhere, trees are throwing a party.

Unfortunately, this is not the Steve Austin/Jaime Sommers kind of Bionic Eye. The truth of the JAKKS Pacific product is in its official name, the EyeClops BioniCam, a gizmo we showed you in our Holiday Gift Guide.

In case you haven't heard of it, the contraption is essentially a very powerful microscope with which kids can explore the world in the highest detail. In its first incarnation, the device plugged into your TV, which displayed magnified images collected from the camera's "eye." The Bionic Eye won tons of awards for its wonder factor. Think about how cool carpet fibers, hair or ice cubes become when you can amplify the image up to 200 times.

At CES this year, JAKKS showed off the next iteration of the EyeClops BioniCam, which boasts a few new features. Most importantly, the 2008 Bionic Eye will outdo its predecessor by coming with a battery pack to make it portable. Now, kids can explore the micro-universe outside, where they haven't seen the light of day since the Xbox came out. In addition, the new BioniCam is affixed with a camera and LSD screen so that images may be viewed, captured and downloaded to the computer using a USB key.

Okay, so we came off a little gruff at first, when in reality this is a pretty impressive offering by JAKKS. As noted above, an unintended consequence of technology is that it sometimes keeps little Johnny and Marisol inside and glued to the TV screen. This innovation does the opposite by promoting the idea of children using technology to zoom about and investigate their world. You can't beat that. The 2008 EyeClops BioniCam will be available in the fall.

Adult Film Starlet Tory Lane dropped a bombshell on us during an interview at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas. When asked why she prefers Macintosh computers over PCs, the porn goddess stated, "I bang the co-CEO of Mac." Lane, featured in over 100 adult films, explained that "Daddy pays the allowance," intimating that the executive in question financed the purchase of her Macintosh.

Lane's statements are a tad confusing, as Mac is only a product rather than a company. Furthermore, the company that produces Macintosh computers, Apple, has only one CEO, Steve Jobs. Regardless, Lane did not seem to be joking when she made the statements in a curious slip of the tongue. The Adult Entertainment Expo is usually held during the same week as the famous Consumer Electronics Show (CES) every year.

5. Cut back on text messages

The convenience of text messaging is obvious, but the charges are not. Without a pricey unlimited plan, texting can cost you up to 15 cents a pop, and that can add up quickly, especially if you're the type that uses these little typed messages for lengthy dialogues. Many airlines and banks offer flight updates and balance information via text -- while these services seem convenient, they can really do a job on your wireless bill, not to mention wake you up with a new message alert in the middle of the night. So sign up for e-mail alerts instead, and check those on your own time. And don't forget, it's sometimes easier, quicker, and more effective to just make a quick phone call!

Bassist and songwriter Nikki Sixx met fame in the 1980s as a member of the rock/heavy metal band Motley Crue. Sixx cemented a reputation as a hard-charging force on the music scene through his frequent drug binges and over-the-top theatrical performances on stage. In 2006, he joined the members of Motley Crue on a reunion tour, this time gratefully sober. Now the bassist in Sixx: A.M. and one-third of the creative force behind The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack, Nikki found time to sat down to answer our Switched Questionnaire and tell us about the role of gadgets in his life, including the love/hate relationship he has with his iPhone...

Wish my iPhone had true video messaging -instead of voice mail it would face mail. Hello, Mr. Jobs?

What upcoming gadget can you not wait to get your hands on?
I can't wait to check into the iHotel. DJ told me it should be ready in 2011.

Suntan oil and a blonde (or a brunette or both), unless the iGirl is ready.

A.M. right now, but usually everything from metal to country.

For much of the past year, 'The Dark Knight' has been the subject of an elaborate online advertising campaign built around Ledger's character, the evil Joker. Now it is a matter of debate whether Warner Bros., the studio behind the film, will alter its marketing strategy following the actor's passing.

The viral campaign began early on by slowly revealing the new Joker's face on a site (now inactive) called IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com. A scavenger hunt and a series of other fan-based games have fed the Batman hype, periodically delivering new images of Ledger's Joker to the public. Now the curious can read up on the imaginary Gotham City at www.gothamtimes.com, or peruse a nightmarish alternate daily paper at www.thehahahatimes.com.

Despite the Ledger tragedy, Warner Bros. recently released a statement saying that marketing for the film would not change. We think that it is an appropriate move to continue publicizing 'The Dark Knight' around the intriguing central villain. Nothing will honor Ledger's life and work more than ensuring that what will undoubtedly be a powerful performance receives public and critical acclamation. What do you think?

Roseanne Barr

We have some vague recollection of Roseanne confessing that she has multiple personalities on her long-buried talk show a number of years back. We think she was on to something, as this blog could be the key evidence to any plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Raging posts supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential candidacy (with friends like this...) are interspersed with quotables about some Goddess "lifting the veil" (Huh? is right.) and a random nude painting she refers to as "Fat Butt." That being the case, we're willing to bet that two of her personalities are Madam Mix-A-Lot and Rush Limbaugh's liberal doppelganger.

Rosie O'Donnell

Wait, didn't Rosie O'Donnell recently make our Best Celebrity Blogs story? She did! But we decided that Rosie's work is a two-headed monster, equal parts wonderful and loony. Those of you that caught our "Best of" piece might remember how scared, lonely and used we felt when Rosie tried to channel Sylvia Plath. Jeff Bridges makes the list as a lesson in potential squandered to all the youngsters out there. The man who brought you The Dude in The Big Lebowski maintains a blog that conceptually seems kind of cool. Various sketches of things like surfing penguins and a doodle of Bridges succumbing to a dental chair make up the site. Unfortunately, his Dudeness cops out on us by linking these drawings to news sites, trailers and Amazon.com pages instead of giving us more personal, inventive substance with his style. Take note out there: If you tantalize us with an artsy, original blog façade, you should link to more of yourself, not less. Where were you when we needed you, Jeff?

Ah, narcissism. It could be said that blogging is all about people indulging themselves in...themselves. Victoria Beckham, former Spice Girl and wife of LA Galaxy soccer star David Beckham, reinforces such a notion with a blog that features endless photos of herself in Paris, on Ugly Betty, at Fashion Week, on magazine covers, going on ad nauseum. Eschewing the idea that a blog might discuss, opine, inform or share the deeply personal, Beckham's blog takes the cake for most vanity ("This is how you pose for pictures," she tell us.). If you want a fun activity, though, just go through the pictures and see how many you count before there is an image of someone other than Posh Spice.
