So I just downloaded the entire Daft Punk discography in Spotify before All Access could finish a single album. That needs improving.

For iPhoto as with iTunes you can move your databases onto another hard drive and pressing the "option" key when starting up those applications, you will be able to find and choose these moved "large" databases and use from those remote locations. AND by moving those off your main drive, you save yourself a lot of headaches when the OS gets wonky or dies (and it will) and you have to reformat or reinstall on that drive. These very precious databases will not be there and they'll and you'll be "safe".
