There were some who speculated that the arrival of the
iPhone 4 on the
Verizon network would spell not just certain death for
AT&T, but put an end to Android's reign atop the smartphone heap at Big Red. So far, though, neither of those predictions has come to pass. AT&T has not suffered a mass exodus and, according to at least one analyst,
the HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon's first LTE phone) is outselling the iPhone 4 in Verizon stores. The claim, however, is based primarily on anecdotal reporting from randomly selected Verizon retail locations, and doesn't take into account sales from Apple or third-party outlets like Best Buy. Still, the report from BTIG Research could indicate that the shift to 4G and the rising popularity of big-screen phones may in fact be working against the current crop of Apple handsets.

yes but the question to ask is
Are Thunderbolts outselling iphones because they are the better phone and folks are actively picking the Thunderbolt over the iphone. or is it simply that the folks that would get an iphone are so certain there will be a Verizon iphone 5 in June/July that they are not upgrading their current phone until they can get that model

So what was that Steve Jobs was saying about how people didn't want phones bigger than 3.5 inch screens? I'm half expecting him to say "their wants are wrong" at this point.

I actually just returned my thunderbolt and got an iphone. The android system was clunky, and the battery life on that phone was absolutely horrendous - i'm talking like 4 hours. iphone is great so far

A new study reported by Wired indicates that the newly released HTC Thunderbolt is outselling the very popular iPhone 4. Even casual observers of the cellphone industry have been aware of the once exclusive relationship between Apple and AT&T and the long-running rumors before it eventually shipped early in February of this year. Sales of the iPhone 4 are somewhere north of 1 million units to date, nothing to be ashamed of, but Verizon's ongoing ad campaign promoting its 4G LTE data network are cutting into sales of Apple's popular device.
