School Bus Driver Arrested After Sending Over 1,000 Texts While Driving
Just about everyone in the world knows that texting while driving puts motorists and passengers in serious danger, especially if school buses are involved. Evelyn Guzman, however, apparently didn't think it was that big of a deal.Guzman, 47, was recently arrested in Connecticut after police found video footage showing the woman sending text messages while driving a school bus. The surveillance video reportedly provides evidence that Guzman sent a total of 1,068 texts from behind the wheel, over a period spanning from April 6th to May 15th of last year.
The arrest caps a ten-month investigation that police began after receiving a complaint about Guzman's daughter, Jennifer Davila, who served as a school bus monitor. Davila was arrested in August on charges of assaulting a 9-year-old autistic girl. As investigators pored over the video footage, they discovered that Davila's mother was engaging in nefarious behavior, as well.
Guzman turned herself into the police last Wednesday, and has since been released on $1,500 bail. On March 25th, she'll head to court, where she'll face charges of risk of injury to a minor and second-degree reckless endangerment.
