With Groom in the Hospital, Couple Gets Married via Skype
On her wedding day, 27-year-old Helen Oh found herself standing alone at the altar, in front of 500 friends and family. Samuel Kim, her husband-to-be, wasn't by her side, and wasn't even in the same building. But the Big Day still ended on a high note, thanks to some resourceful improvisation, and a Skype connection.A few days before the wedding, Kim came down with a serious lung infection, which confined him to the isolation ward of a local hospital. Rather than cancel the ceremony at the last minute, the couple decided to go through with it remotely, via Skype.
Five cameramen filmed the event at the church, while Kim literally phoned in his own wedding from the comfort of his hospital room. The crew also set up jumbo screens at the facility, allowing the guests to see the happy couple in split-screen presentation.
Though the wedding may not have played out the way Kim and his bride hoped it would, Kim said he was proud of making the best of a potentially disastrous situation. "Guests said it was inspirational, they really admired my fiancee for being able to stand at the altar in the manner that she did, alone and not crying the whole time," Kim told Reuters. "She was able to hold her ground and I was able to hold my ground, not crying or anything."

Well, the vows do say "in sickness and in health"... this kind of thing is how you know it's meant to be. Congratulations to the couple, and here's hoping for a quick recovery.

I have never read anything like this. Is absolutely beautiful from both of their parts and basically that's what love is all about! Is not about the dress, the money, the ceremony, or the great evening is really about an eternal commitment.. together forever no matter what... and i see him making it up for her in the future which is cute.. God bless their matrimony!

I wish I didn't have to click through a link to find out what country/state/town this happened in. It was in California, for those of you who are wondering.

@rymake Thanks. I thought it was poor reporting that the location was not included.

The bride is gorgeous. I would want a more traditional veil, but that one looks quite sophisticated! And I'm torn between a true sweetheart neckline, and a slight dip of a sweetheart neckline. Oh, well. Like I have to worry about such things! Contratulations to the happy couple!

That's beautiful, "the in sickness and health" thing, and it's very admirable that they
went forward with the wedding. BUT, isn't your wedding day supposed to be one of the
most treasured days of your life? Aren't you supposed to exchange rings, steal loving
glances, etc . . .? My boyfriend and I do. He is 11 years older than me . . . Ha Ha Ha
just kidding! I surprised that ignorant spammer hasn't made it this site yet!!!!!! Thank
goodness! AND congratulations and your wedding, you two lovebirds!

So sweet! Agreed with Nemephosis about vows being "In Sickness and in Health" and santosstephanie7...it's more about the commitment and the memory....who could forget that wedding!?
