South Korean Government Falls Prey to Cyber Attacks
According to AhnLab, a South Korean anti-virus software manufacturer, the sites fell prey to a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack at around 10:00 a.m., local time, and more attacks could be on the way. Websites run by the presidential office, South Korea's national intelligence agency and the U.S. military were among those affected by the DDoS operations.
Officials have yet to identify the source of the attacks, but they seem similar in nature to the July 2009 attacks that took down dozens of South Korean sites. Seoul's National Intelligence Service later accused North Korea of launching the attacks.
