
Facebook users will soon be able to characterize their relationship statuses with a bit more precision, now that the social network has begun rolling out
two new options: 'in a civil union' and 'in a domestic partnership.' The company made the move after consulting its
Network of Support, which includes LGBT advocacy groups like the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, and the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network. "This has been a highly requested feature from users," said Andrew Noyes, manager of public policy communications at Facebook. "We want to provide options for people to genuinely and authentically reflect their relationships on Facebook."

Why don't they just leave the thing blank and without choices and
let people use the words they wish to define their relationships.
