Barely a week after Detroit's mayor
tweeted that a RoboCop statue wouldn't be erected in the city, the Detroit Free-Press is reporting that a group of artists and fans who supported the idea
have raised more than $50,000 toward its construction. The group will continue to solicit donations on
its Kickstarter page until March 29th. After that, it will determine how much to spend and hire sculptors to build the RoboCop statue. Despite Mayor Dave Bing initially rejecting the idea, the Free-Press claims the Mayor's office is now working with the group to find a public spot for the statue. If not, the statue will likely end up at an outdoor art space called the Imagination Station.
