Bill Gates: Mubarak's Internet Blockade Is in Vain

Bill Gates and Katie Couric
Bill Gates sat down with Katie Couric for a little one-on-one yesterday, and the conversation naturally turned to the current events in Egypt. For his part, the Microsoft founder wasn't terribly shocked that Hosni Mubarak managed to shut down the Internet across the country. "It's not that hard to shut the Internet down if you have military power, where you can tell people that's what's going to happen," he told Couric. Gates was quick to point out that it's not necessarily the best tactic, though. "Whenever you do something extraordinary like that, you're sort of showing people you're afraid of the truth getting out," he continued, ultimately pointing out that Mubarak's efforts were in vain. Despite the fact that most of the country's servers are still down, information is still getting out and activists have found a way around the leader's digital road block. Check out a clip from the interview after the break.
