20th Century Fox to Make Movie Based on Atari's 'Missile Command'
Don't ask us why, but 20th Century Fox is reportedly planning to make a movie based on Atari's 'Missile Command.' Yes, that 'Missile Command.' The 1980s arcade game that doesn't any involve any characters, any plot, or anything else that makes good material for a movie. According to Variety, screenwriters Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama will be charged with the unenviable task of creating a compelling script out of absolutely nothing, after having just finished writing screenplays for the remake of 'Flash Gordon,' and 'Dracula Year Zero.' It's unclear which direction Sharpless and Sazama will take, but, at this point, it looks like all roads lead to Terrible.

If there was any doubt that Hollywood is out of ideas, this should put those doubts to rest. Their desperate because they know that kids won't pay to see their garbage any more unless its Twilight or some other teenybopper schlock..and half of that audience will just download it. So the studios have resorted to pillaging the 80's to concoct half-baked excrement like Tron: Legacy (in 3D) and Yogi Bear (in 3D) in hopes that older viewers will throw them a bone for nostalgia's sake. Well, guess what? All of us around the big 4-0 milestone have no interest in wearing stupid glasses for a lackluster 3D experience that adds nothing to the film. We're also not thrilled about terrible remakes of things that we loved as kids. Stop insulting us and start producing some engaging films with believable stories and great character development again! Quit leaning on computer generated explosions to carry every damn thing you produce - its OLD now. This news about Missile Command isn't encouraging: I'm half afraid that Disney's gamble on Tron, despite the fact it was a dud, will renew interest in videogame-related movies I guess Street Fighter and Super Mario Brothers didn't teach that town its lesson. Oh, and one last note to filmmakers: jamming almost every film full of left-wing propaganda isn't helping you either. Most of America is moderately conservative - that is to say, we live in the real world.

Maybe it will be a hit like 'Super Mario Brothers', wait that wasn't a hit. Guess it will be 'direct to video' release.
