Verizon Goes LTE Crazy, Launching New Tablets and Android Phones

Verizon's LTE Lineup
Verizon got on its 4G high horse today at CES, expounding its plans for LTE, particularly on the consumer device front. There wasn't a ton of news that will really blow your mind, but there were a few interesting tidbits worth noting. First is the company's rather ambitious pledge to blanket about two-thirds of the country with its speedy 4G network by 2012. And, while we're sure you're all excited to know that Verizon's 7-12Mbps downloads will be coming soon to your city, you're more interested to know what you'll have in hand to take advantage of it. The Motorola Xoom was on stage, and we've already seen the Droid Bionic, but the company had a few more surprises up its sleeve.

Galaxy Tab

The first Android tablet to be taken seriously will be getting a nice update later in the year with an LTE radio, a faster processor and an improved, rear-facing camera. Sadly there was no Honeycomb update, but that only means that it shouldn't take much to get the device on retail shelves.

Unnamed Samsung LTE Smartphone

It runs Android (although it's inexcusably still 2.2), packs a 1Ghz processor like the Galaxy S line, and features both rear- and front-facing cameras for placing video calls. Obviously, it's LTE, but, unlike the Galaxy S line, this device rocks a 4.3-inch screen of the Super AMOLED Plus variety.

HTC Thunderbolt

This phone has been leaked to death, but it's nice to finally make it official. Android 2.2, a 1Ghz processor and HTC's Sense are all aboard the company's first LTE device. The Thunderbolt is clearly a close relative of the EVO 4G, as made obvious by its expansive 4.3-inch screen.

LG Revolution

Almost as heavily leaked as the previously mentioned HTC device, the Revolution is a warm addition to Verizon's site. Details on this handset are pretty thin, but that officially makes four phones and two tablets for Verizon's fledgling LTE network. Not a bad line up.
