Dedicated 'Netflix Button' Coming to TV Remotes
Netflix wants to make sure when you think streaming movies you think of it and its iconic white on red logo. To that end, we've learned, that the company has actually managed to convince a number of companies to put a dedicated Netflix button on their remotes. In the spring, Internet-connected Blu-ray players and TVs from the likes of Sony, Haier, Dynex (Best Buy's in house brand), Panasonic, Toshiba, Memorex, Samsung, and Sharp will all start shipping with remotes that feature one-click access to Netflix's video-streaming library. TVs and Blu-ray players aren't the only devices getting in on the action either. Streaming media boxes from Roku, Boxee and the recently announced Iomega TV (which is powered by Boxee) will get a Netflix button on their remotes. We'd already caught wind that future iterations of the Boxee Box would be shipping with a dedicated Netflix button on its remote, but there was no indication that such a feature would find its way to other device. Without the need to dig through menus, navigate application lists or (gasp) change inputs and hook up your PC, it will be even harder to avoid getting sucked into evening-long '30 Rock' marathons.
