Eye-Fi Direct Mode Lets You Send Photos Directly to Your Phone or Tablet

The point-and-shoot camera has struggled in recent years as cell phone cameras have become increasingly powerful and mobile, but Eye-Fi still has faith in the dedicated camera. Known for its Wi-Fi-enabled memory cards, Eye-Fi is introducing a new Direct Mode for its line of X2 cards that lets you grab photos and video from your camera to transfer to your tablet or phone without any wires or multi-step uploads. Of course, you'll need to be running the Eye-Fi app on your mobile device, but that's a lot easier than dealing with cable and network clutter. The X2 cards, currently available, are scheduled to get a free Direct Mode update sometime in 2011.
