People Admire Bill Gates More Than the Dalai Lama, Pope, Glenn Beck

bill gatesThe Dalai Lama and Pope Benedict XVI are two of the most lauded men in the world, but, according to a recent USAToday/Gallup poll, neither man is quite as admirable as Bill Gates. The Microsoft co-founder ranked fifth in this year's 'Most Admired Man' poll, behind Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, who topped the list for the third consecutive year. On the women's side, Hillary Clinton took home the crown for the ninth consecutive year, with Sarah Palin and Oprah Winfrey coming in second and third, respectively.

A full 2-percent of respondents selected Gates as their most admired man, compared with 1-percent who chose him in 2008. His "admirability" may not be as high as it was in 2005, when Time anointed him 'Man of the Year,' but it's still considerable enough for Gates to beat out the likes of the Dalai Lama, the Pope, Jimmy Carter and Reverend Billy Graham. Gates even beat out Glenn Beck, who tied for eighth place. But watch out, Bill. We all know how Beck treats multi-billionaire philanthropists.
