MIT's Haptic Wallets Give Cash-Poor Users a Tactile Reminder to Stay Thrifty

The good people at MIT Media Labs have you covered, though, with a new series of wallets designed to help you keep your spending in line. Each of the Lab's three designs -- the Bumblebee, the Mother Bear, and the Peacock -- connects with your cell phone via Bluetooth, then checks on your bank account to see how your finances are doing. Bumblebee buzzes every time you make a deposit into or a withdrawal from your account, while the Peacock swells in accordance with your balance. Haptic Mother Bear acts like, well, a bear trap, demanding that you pry her jaws open if your funds get too low.
The irony of purchasing a product with the intent to control your purchasing isn't lost on us, of course. (Good thing that these are only prototypes.) But, if you're one of those people who can't ever seem to remember how much money is left in your bank account, you could do worse than having a wallet that will remind you.

If you are that stupid that you need a wallet to remind you of how much money you are spending, first off you don't have enough to buy this wallet and second get a life and learn to use a calculator.

some companies thik the public are a bunch of morons. I don't have any money to spend, so I have no trouble about spending too much

Catherine: That's THE problem: companies DO indeed believe Americans are morons --- and we don't give these thugs any reason to think differently! I mean, Americans are more fixated on "who" may win "Dancing with the Stars" or what that low-life teenage tramp (Miley Cirus) is smoking --- or what the shade of Britney Spears' (another loser!) eyeliner is this week --- than ANY number of serious issues that plague our country today! THAT ... is fact - and THAT is not lost on those whose business it is to manipulate public opinion in order to keep picking our pockets. But, hey, Merry CHRISTmas, anyhow!
