Racing Game 'Cave of No Return' Teaches Us All the Perils of Speleogenesis

cave of no return
Perhaps you've heard of a little game that came out recently called 'Gran Turismo 5.' The long-awaited racing simulator has finally dropped on PS3, and we've had racing games on our brains. We can't escape the urge to experience high-speed thrills, and we know we're not alone. This week, we're addicted to zooming along, rocketing though our latest picks for Flash and indie racing titles.

Okay, 'Cave of No Return' may not be a racing game in the sense that it features insanely fast race cars, but it does feature the most important race of all (says Indiana Jones): the race against deadly cave-ins. You control an anime-style main character who must make it as far as possible through a deadly cave that is collapsing behind her. While your character moves forward automatically, the up button will make her jump, and the down button will initiate a speedy slide maneuver. These are essential to avoiding the cave's numerous obstacles, including stalagmites and stalactites. While a crushing death is unavoidable, you'll accrue points based on how long you last, and they will be posted to online leader boards. 'Cave of No Return' is a simple, mindless game with an important lesson: Never go in caves, especially those of no return.
