Gift Guide: Pro-Ject Debut III Turntable for Under $500
One of the happier developments in recent years has been the resurgence of vinyl, having inspired many of us to fall in love with our record collections all over again. As we recently advised a Switched reader, if you're going to dive back into vinyl, you owe it to your ears and your records to do it right with a solid turntable like the Pro-Ject Debut III. A solid all-around performer right out of the box, the Debut III comes standard with a great Ortofon OM5E cartridge, and should be a breeze to set up even for newbies. Granted, you'll want to make sure you have a receiver with a phono preamp and a nice pair of speakers too. But, word has it, a jolly little elf from up North has a fondness for high-fidelity audio -- so here's hoping you were good this year.www.project-audio.com

I'd rather spend the money (about the same for a good used or just abit more for a new one) for a 'Technics 1200' which is the tool of vinyl d.j.'s. Direct drive (no 'belts' to matain or replace), easy 'cartridge/stylus' replacements and adjustments. Plus the Tech 1200 will treat your records so they will last!!!
