Gift Guide: Asus Eee PC 1215N Is Our Laptop Pick for Under $500
Asus has done well by its line of low-cost Eee PCs, but the 1215N distinguishes itself from the rest of the netbook crowd by being fully-capable and ultraportable, rather than a cheaply made, crippled, underpowered toy like most baby laptops we've experienced. The 1215N has a bright, high-resolution (and widescreen dimension) 12-inch display, a dual-core 1.8GHz Intel Atom processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM, a giganto 250 gigabyte drive and best of all, switchable Nvidia Ion graphics. In real world terms, we can't believe how much muscle this thing packs for the price. HD video and even 3-D gaming function perfectly, and with typical use you'll still get up to 7 hours of battery life. That puts the 1215N firmly in best of breed range for us, and home-run territory for whoever opts to make one a gift.www.asus.com

Stay away from Asus. We bought 2 in July from Best Buys, which Best Buys is another nightmare we will never walk in one of their stores again. But One computer failed in less than 30 days, It Cost us 50.00 to get our info backed up and 52.00 to send it back that was 1st time. We ended up sending it back 4 times but made them pay for other 3 times. After 4 months of dozens of phone calls and nerve racking argueing we finally got them to replace it. They replaced charged cord 3 times because it over heated, the mother board, the cd/dvd player 2 times, and I can't remember what else. Now just yesterday the other one the key board is messing up. I dread the fight. We might just lay them both in drive way take a 9 mm to them and mail the pieces back to them. I would not want to even give these 2 pieces of junk to any one. OH their tech help people are mostly idiots also.

It's hard to take a review seriously when you can't write a proper sentence. It makes me wonder if the machine wasn't the problem. Maybe you aren't intelligent enough to use one.

Please do not buy an Asus. We bought 2 in July and one was a night mare. We ended up sending it back to them 4 times before they finally replaced it. And we had to fight and fight and fight to get that. 1st time back cost us 50.00 for saving info. and 52.00 for postage. Last 3 times we made them pay for it. They replaced charger cord 3 times for over heating, mother board, cd/dvd player 2 times, and I can't remember what else. They have finally replaced it but with out any free programs that came in it. We now have to buy. And yesterday the second one we bought the key board is messing up. I dread another fight. Better half says he is going to blow them both up and send Asus the pieces and go buy a good one. We have had laps tops for years and never had problems like this before. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND ASUS ANY MODEL. We had the K50 and a K60. K60 was the worst. The K50 is one that keyboard is now a problem.

they obviously were p[aid very well for this survey, they did not include walmart and Acer apparently, In July I bought 3 full size acers from walmart, duel core 1.86. blah blah, looks like the same description qabove, but of course the battery life is only 5 hours. they get a lot of use here and have traveled all over the country with us. Price, $328 bucks. best laptop we have ever had and we have been packing for years. Acer is the best, we also bought Acer netbooks for the kids, they love them

If you have an ACER with a 160GB harddrive, be careful. Once they are over 130GB full they crash. Otherwise, this is the best laptop that I have ever owned.

You may have run into the 28 bit LBA limit. An older BIOS with 28 bit LBA cannot address a hard drive above 137GB. You could try to get a BIOS update to 48 bit LBA as most companies provide this option. Also partitioning your hard drive may work. For more info see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logical_block_addressing
And for some possible solutions try

Good luck!
