OnLive Launches Flat Rate, Unlimited Game Streaming Option

OnLive has already enabled wireless gameplay, and, last week, it began dispatching a series of e-mails to early subscribers and "founding members." First, the company announced the arrival of its 'MicroConsole' OnLive Game System (which is similar in style and function to a Roku box) and its $99 price. Yesterday, OnLive followed that announcement with a message that revealed the actual subscription plan. Some observers worried about a possible $15 monthly fee, but the company priced its PlayPack service -- which provides unlimited gaming -- at $9.99 per month. Customers will still be able to purchase and rent individual games, though, for a variety of prices.
The questions surrounding OnLive's feasibility certainly seem less daunting now, and the arrival of the Game System should clarify any concerns over its effectiveness. OnLive began shipping the devices today, so stay tuned. There's definitely more to come.
