Dinner for Two? OpenTable Now Gives You an 'In'

Tables for 2 Tonight
Here in New York City, the era of struggling to get a table for two at Dorsia has ended -- but that doesn't mean that, when you decide that tonight's a last-minute date night, you've got myriad options. OpenTable, the national service that allows restaurant-goers to peruse, book and review restaurants online, has launched "Tables for 2 Tonight." Based on where the diner is located, he or she can see their options for this evening on the freshly revamped Metro homepage. There, based on location, it's possible to see what places have availability; of course, you can narrow the results by price, cuisine, location and even booking times.

Sure, mobile apps are encroaching on OpenTable's reservation stronghold, but the service is one of the best at taking advantage of your area's culinary options. Mashable calls the homepage "sparse," but navigating the site has always been a cinch for us. No other service has a more thorough list of seasonal and thematic options -- like places open on Thanksgiving or best choices for killer cocktails -- and the site frequently rotates its features. The option to make last-minute decisions and not suffer lines or the indignity of the maître d' is now presented on OT's snappy homepage. Landing a table at Dorsia though... well, no one goes there anymore, anyway.
