Karl Lagerfeld Compares Facebook to Brancusi, And Some Other Crazy Talk
God, we love Karl Lagerfeld. Maybe you're not a fashion fan, maybe you're offended by his unapologetic weightism or maybe you think he looks like the death mask of Bela Lugosi, but you cannot ignore the man's witticisms (if you can call them that) or his pronouncements on what is and is not de rigueur. "I'm rather pro-prostitution," the designer once said. "I admire people who do it. It can't be much fun. Thank goodness for it. People need relief or they become murderers." In addition to prostitution, he also admires technology. The man who famously owns 300 iPods gave an interview to the obscure (and apt) Luxury Channel, in which he talked about how iPads and other technological knicknacks "are very beautiful objects." Newfangled tech doesn't suffer from bad taste or bad design, he says, "because bad design IS bad taste today." He added, "They are flawless, in a way. Facebook is a flawless object. It's for me like a Brancusi."
He then talks about "getting one" in white gold, and a BlackBerry, too -- but that's where the Teutonic accent threw us. Maybe he's confusing hardware and UIs, or maybe he sees the entire 500-million-strong network as just another gleaming object in his curio cabinet of the world. We have no idea. After all, this is the same guy who said, prior to a fashion show in 2007, "I have no human feelings." We adore him.

Christ, he looks like a corpse someone left laying around in the sun for a couple weeks. Someone bury it.
