Dust Off Your Rollerblades And Strap Into FlyRad, The Uni-Wheeled Nerd Conveyance
We've seen some strange methods of transportation before, but few can hold a candle to this... thing. The FlyRad is, essentially, an electric unicycle with handlebars that you don't sit on. Instead, you have three positions for transporting yourself, and they all involve strapping on Rollerblades. First, you can hold on to the handles with the FlyRad and let it drag you around like rag doll with a death wish. Second, you can wedge the tiny seat into your rear -- with the wheel behind you and the handle bars sticking through your legs -- and get pushed around like some sort of re-imagining of the Minotaur for a future 'Mad Max' installment. Lastly, you can simply straddle the device, making it look like you're riding the world's tiniest and lamest motorcycle. The standard model boasts a top speed of 25 mph and a range of 31 miles, and will be available in three sizes: child, teen and adult. There is also a beefier model with a motor twice as powerful as the original. The FlyRad is expected to go on sale sometime in early 2011, but price has yet to be announced. We're already working on getting a demo set up. Hurtling through traffic in downtown Manhattan on one of these sounds both thrilling and deadly. Video after the break.

this is a really cool idea and concept, but i have to say after watching the video it seems dangerous and unsafe to mass produce this thing i think it be safer to catch the bus and or ride a bike around town plus it looks like you could get injured if you don't know how to ride the thing people should really think things through before trying to mass produce something that could possibly injure a lot of people

@(Unverified) Of course if you want to use the "FlyRad" on different surfaces you should adapt the inline skates and tire. F.e.think about wearing cross skates with big pneumatik wheels (Rollerblades Coyote) and a cross tires if there are holes or cable stones.
If you want to use it on flat street you can use ragular inline skates small or big wheels.
If you want to use it on ice you need a spike tire and skates...
Its the same thing with a car:
In winter: winter- tires
In summer: summer- tires
For a race car: racing tires..
Did you ever try to wright on ice surface with a regurar bike ?

@(Unverified) Please check the homepage under multimedia.. you will find videos showing what you can do with "Flyrad" and how save it is.
www.Flyrad.de.
Full brake is no problem while having "sitting position" because you are always on 3 points.
A bicycle has only 2 points. Think about it.
Many regard from could germany/bavaria. Its already freezing here.

Clever...yes. But what do you do with it when your dizzy after doing circles in 7 different positions? Plop it in the garage next to your Segway and say "Maybe I'll drive it a month. Maybe people wont make fun of me by then". Im sure your roller blades that must be kept firmly on the ground will do well in most citys. Clever though....

Although the cool factor and geek factor are both very good, I have never visited a city in the US where the streets are as smooth or as clean as the sidewalks. I have hit stones on blades and its not a lot of fun tumbling at 25 mph, tie in a 100 pound piece of fiberglass and aluminum tied to my legs and its gonna leave a mark........
