Late-Night Texts Occupy Teens After 'Bed Time,' Study Says

Texting Teens
New research from the Sleep Disorder Center at JFK Medical Center has provided media outlets with attention-grabbing headlines, such as 'Many Teens Text All Night Long.' But, thanks to its incredibly small sample size (only 40 students) and vague parameters (after "bed time"), the Center's study fails to shed any new light on the issue. Lightning-quick exchanges and 24-7 availability are now accepted elements of everyday life, especially for teens whose lives revolve around Facebook updates and SMS gossip. As many other studies have shown, constantly being connected can lead to anxiety, lack of sleep and, in the case of students, even lower grades. But what does the Center's Dr. Polos suggest those sleepless teens do? Why, just put down the phone. Still, we're sure that parents' efforts to force their kids to unplug -- even in the name of a good night's sleep -- will be met with strong resistance. Check out the news clips from ABC and NBC after the break.
