Rioting Giants Fans Hop on Foursquare, Twitter After World Series Win

riot in san francisco
Last night, the San Francisco Giants defeated the Texas Rangers to win the World Series. Giants fans, naturally, did what sports fans do best after their team wins a championship: riot in the streets. Of course, Giants fans aren't just any sports fans; they're savvy social media users, too. Amid all of last night's revelry, Giants fans found the time to check in from the riots on Foursquare, and post accounts of the fracas with the hashtag #sfriots on Twitter. At one point, 44 people had checked in from a riot on Polk Street, with others posting the locations of similarly havoc-worthy sites around the city. (According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Market Street hosted an estimated 7,000 rioters at one point.) Fans posted pictures and videos of the mayhem online (one of which you can watch after the break), and Ustream even featured live feeds of some of the anarchy. Nicely done, San Francisco!
