Nurse Robot Cheerfully Smiles, Ensures Years of Nightmares

Japan's Kokoro robotics company earned recognition last year for its innocuous and heartwarming (and just slightly disturbing) DIY robot girlfriend kit. The company has apparently grown bored with benevolent companion-bots, though, as it has partnered with the terrifying thought-control engineers from Advanced Telecommunications Research (ATR).

Kokoro and ATR recently released a video demonstration of the amazing Actroid-F, an automaton intended to act "as an observer in hospitals to gauge patient reactions." The exceptionally realistic Actroid-F brandishes a wide array of facial expressions, projects a variety of human emotions, and easily overshadows other interactive robot companions we've seen. But we're wary of Actroid ever coming to the U.S. -- lest we start up all that "scary science" and "death panel" rhetoric again.
