Facebook Launches 'Friendship Pages' for Besties Joined at the Hip

friendship pages on facebook
Today, Facebook announced 'Friendship Pages' -- a new feature designed to help friends relive those bygone moments of yesteryear.

Each Friendship Page contains all of the public Wall posts and comments between two besties, along with all the photos in which they've been tagged and the events they've attended together. As soon as two of your friends merrily jump into Friendship Page partnership, you'll be able to follow their entire history together on their communal page -- as long as you have permission to view each friend's individual profile. According to Facebook, the pages will give users a centralized location to rekindle magical memories, and trace the evolution of their relationships.

We can understand why sappy couples would enjoy having a complete digital record of their relationship, and extremely close friends may enjoy browsing through their old vacation photos and Wall exchanges. But it still seems a bit counterintuitive to think of Facebook as a vehicle for nostalgia, rather than as a medium to keep tabs on what your friends are doing in the here and now. We'll have to wait and see how the community responds to this newly wistful side of Facebook, but it may take some time for us to warm up to the concept.
