iMovie Blocks Studio Names in 'Hollywood-Style' Trailers
Apple unveiled the new iLife '11 program -- which involves various media upgrades to iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand -- at the recent 'Back to Mac' event. To promote the new iMovie features, the company is now touting the filmmaking software's "Hollywood-style movie trailers" -- but the key word here is definitely style. iMovie includes new "Studio" templates, which bear striking similarities to the logos of real production companies like Paramount and Universal. If a user tries to actually enter one of those trademarked company names, though, iMovie reportedly automatically replaces the text with hyphens. Apple apparently offers no explanation for the austere blockade, but the name prohibition shouldn't be that big of a deal. Just like quietly serving Fruit Rings instead of Fruit Loops, or Johnny Talker in place of his distant cousin Johnny Walker, simply type in 'Paramont' or 'Varner Bros.' and no one -- aside from the huge movie nerds -- will notice or care.
