Design Terminology: Font vs. Typeface

Over at Hyperallergic, Hrag Vartanian wonders aloud, "Did desktop publishing ruin design terminology?" We often use the term 'font' when we mean 'typeface,' a term that has almost completely fallen out of use outside of graphic design circles. Vartanian's helpful look back at FontFeed, though, clears up their distinction. "Font is what you use, and typeface is what you see," says Norbert Florendo.
