Logitech Unveils Revue Google TV Device for $299
Today in New York, we got our first view of the Logitech Revue, the first device built using Google TV in action. The set top box will bring the new Android-based Web-meets-TV experience to users who have a fairly current TV and don't want to shell out for one of the Google-enabled models coming from companies like Sony. As we've already seen, Google TV brings Chrome, with full Flash support (so you can play many of our featured time-wasters), and Web-enabled apps like Netflix to your living room. The Logitech Revue box comes packaged with a wireless keyboard (that can also be purchased separately for $99.99), which uses the same technology as the company's Harmony remote system. You'll find dedicated playback and browsing controls, as well as a touchpad for navigating websites. The pre-installed Logitech Vid HD app enables video calling using the Logitech TV webcam accessory, and the Logitech Media Player app can pull up photos, video and music from USB drives connected directly to the device and from DLNA sources like your computer (i.e. if it's running Windows 7).
An exclusive arrangement with Dish will put results from the satellite TV company's DVRs in your search results, but those using other providers like Time Warner will still have to rely on their cable box to navigate that content. The company also showed off a palm sized controller, for those who don't want to rest a full keyboard in their lap, that looks exactly like the company's diNovo Mini. There are also free remote apps available for the iPhone and Android.
The Logitech Revue is available for pre-order now from Amazon, Best Buy and Logitech for $299.99, and will be sold directly through Dish when they land on store shelves later this month. The mini controller will sell for $129.99 and the HD TV Cam will run $149.99.
