Skype Finally Comes to Android, Available Now for 2.1 or Later
Believe it or not, Skype, one of the most popular VoIP services, is only now available for Android. Skype has been available for Symbian and iOS for quite some time, but it wasn't until early Tuesday morning that it was available for what many expect to become the most popular smartphone platform in the world. Nothing terribly surprising here: you can make and receive calls over Wi-Fi and 3G (except in the U.S. where calls are Wi-Fi only), and the same goes for IMs. Sadly there's no video calling for now, but we can only assume (hope) that will be rectified in a future release. If you're running Android version 2.1 or higher, you can get Skype for free from the Android market right now. Be sure to check out the short demo video after the break.
