It's Not Easy Being Little on a Big Planet in Indie Platformer 'Cordy'

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, this week's crop of games is practically a love letter to games of yore. Drawing inspiration from the past is integral to any art form, so there's no need to knock these newcomers' nods to gaming history. This week's games wear their inspiration like a badge of pride, and they should; they're all supremely entertaining regardless of their origins.

Not all of this week's Flash gaming picks are inspired by the distant past. The Unity-based (plug-in required) 'Cordy' clearly takes its visual and gameplay cues from the recent PlayStation 3 hit 'Little Big Planet.' In fact, it does a shockingly good job of emulating that game's whimsical three-dimensional feel, featuring some of the best graphics we've ever seen in a Flash game. While 'Cordy' eschews its inspiration's customization options, it makes up for it with platforming action that we find (gasp!) better than the PS3 predecessor's. Yeah, there's only a handful of playable levels, but the upbeat music and infectiously cute atmosphere make us want to replay them again and again.
