'Crushd' - Get Upwardly Mobile in the Tetris-Like Flash Game
With the advances games have made over the decades, we sometimes pine for the simple, logical satisfaction of a puzzle game. 'Halo' is great, but we doubt people will be playing it decades from now -- unlike the head-scratchingly good 'Tetris.' Forget big budgets, cinematic storytelling and the whole games-as-art argument, and get down with some puzzling goodness. We've rounded up some of our online faves for playing at our desks, so put on your thinking cap (or whatever you have), and get ready.'Crushd' is a bit like 'Tetris' -- if the latter game had a constantly moving red cube at the bottom of the screen that players had to take care not to crush. The mindless cube in question is the aptly named Red, who must climb further and further upwards. This is done by dropping into Red's path a steady flow of green blocks, which he will automatically climb. These blocks don't come easily, as they drop from the top of the screen in rows of varying sizes. By clicking on a square, players can demolish it, causing the squares resting on it to fall -- a bit like 'Snood.' Play carefully, as Red isn't too bright, and will easily get trapped or squashed. The game sounds easier than it actually is; we ended up crushing poor Red more times than we're willing to admit.
