The technology will lighten the burden on employees, whose sole job is to monitor crowds and security video feeds. The software is able to more effectively spot disruptions to expected crowd patterns, and won't tire the way human eyes and minds do. The software can even learn new crowd patterns simply through observation, which it can then save as models for future use. The Smart Eyes software can be used in conjunction with most existing CCTV hardware, so expect it to start popping up all over Britain very soon.

I remember the great Cold War thriller "Firefox" starring Clint Eastwood, when the Soviet Union used such facial recognition technology. It was part of depicting them as police-state bad guys. Times sure have changed.
