Hide Your Hands at the ATM to Thwart Card Skimmers

The footage (after the break) shows the thieves installing the device, as well as a series of customers entering their PINs. The first batch of patrons enter their codes in plain view of the camera, and there's no problem discerning the access codes for their accounts. The second group, hip to the skimmers' tricks, hide their digits with their other hand, wallet, or whatever else they happen to have handy. The lesson here, as usual, is to be paranoid. Hide your hands, and, even if you missed the bulky reader glued to the front of the ATM, the crooks won't be able to easily take your cash.

I dont understand what they intend to do with the information once they get their camera back. So they have a bunch of peoples pin numbers... do they go steal the physical card?

the skimmer attached to the ATM (start around 0:18 in the video) swipes the credit card info, which can then be tied to the PIN numbers.

great, but you can't enter your card number at an ATM. The physical card has to be swiped. At least with Chase it's like that.

Yes but the skimmer captures all of the magnetic strip information, then they simply use a card writer to create new cards with the same magnetic strip information. The same way hotels have a card writer that they use to make room keys.
