U.S. Government Unveils Real-Time Alert Service

A few months after overhauling its official website and mobile platforms, the U.S. government has now launched an expansive alert service, allowing political junkies to keep track of the latest national happenings in real-time. As the Hill reports, USA.gov's new site -- called notifications.USA.gov -- provides instant, real-time updates and alerts on a wide variety of daily events. Once you sign up for the service, you can receive updates via text, e-mail, or RSS feed, covering 6,200 different topics and 144 federal agencies.

"Whether it be food-safety recalls, weather warnings, or the latest information on government initiatives, the public's need for information from their government continues to grow," says David McClure, associate administrator of the General Services Administration's Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies."By putting real-time notifications at citizens' fingertips or in the palm of their hand, we have created a way for agencies to provide critical information that citizens want in ways that they want it." You may not always agree with Washington's latest moves, but at least you'll be up to date on what's disagreeable.
